    That's probably a good thing.
"Everyone" in Alberta is fighting insurance companies for claims now after our terrible last storms and fires.
Insurance is criminal and such a scam !!

I’m not really sure. It seems no one is unfortunately. Everything I’ve read seems to range from 3-10 years?

Yes, you’re right, but not indefinitely. The fob will stop functioning at some point even if you never downloaded the app or signed up for anything. You are “opted in” to the service that allows the fob (not the app, but the fob) to start the truck from the time of purchase or lease. At a certain point if you do not wish to continue that service, it will be deactivated. I personally don’t have a dog in this fight (and if I did, it would be a Pomeranian anyway, so not really a great chance at winning regardless), but I am old school in the thought that if I “buy” something, I should own it. My intent in this thread was more about that than anything. While I don’t disagree with people that feel it is worth it (my compustar has the same option for an app to do via satellite or cellular for a few), I do feel it isn’t right that Toyota doesn’t properly explain this.

I agree as the app for our f150 at work is free. If I get 10 years that’ll be longer than I own the truck most likely.

Yeah, I think most people won’t own it long enough to matter. If my only option was to pay for it, I would for what it’s worth. I do like a warmed up truck in the morning.

i only pay for it during the winter months for my wife as her work is too far away for the remote to work. At the cost of things today it’s a small price to pay, even if I don’t agree with it.

My 2021 has the engine start feature. I didn’t know you had to pay for that.

To use the app on your phone you do. Well I guess in 10 years maybe it’ll stop on your fob. No one is really sure when.

I had n2 design remote kit on mine but I don't see the subscription on my end. Is that subscription for phone app usages?

For me it's worth it. I work shift work and being able to start the truck from the app in the winter after a night shift makes it worth it. With my old truck I had to step outside to see the truck to get the command start to work. With the app it gets a good head start before I get out there. And I could pay for the app for a number of years before it added up to what a good comparable remote start cost(up here in Canada). But I'm a sucker for convenience too, lol. I didn't want to have to take it somewhere and have a third party starter installed, and have another fob dangling off my key chain. Same reason I overpaid for the factory dash cam. Nice clean install and I was tired of having to suction cup stuff to the windshield.

Remove the SIM Card in the DCM and Toyota “should” never touch your vehicle again. Just make sure everything is working to your satisfaction before doing do.

i have a 2022 tacoma, remote start with remote is free, subscription needed if want to use the app. I renewed my subscription because i can be in my office and still turn on the truck since it is on the other side of the lot. Additionally, i renewed our 2022 sienna subscription because the button option sucks. It does not always register the click for whatever reason when we press lock. It registers it when we click it once but in subsequent 2 clicks and a hold, we have to do it a few times. I noticed the same thing with the tacoma at times.
