    2017 TRD OR 4x4, 70k miles.

Not sure the exact physics of the accident. It was dark, and the fucker came from behind going ~50mph. I'm guessing he swerved out of my lane at the last second (he was drunk), taking out the rear lamp and bumper cover and gouging the bed panel all to shit, then overcorrected and got the front. Rear passenger door won't open; neither will the bed but that's an easier fix. I'm most concerned about damage to the body of the cab just below and behind the rear passenger door (visible in pictures 1 & 3, directly below the sardine can lid that used to be a fender). This seems to be the cab body itself, rather than a panel.

Front quarter panel is banged in, so I can't pop the hood, but no obvious signs of mechanical damage. I'm hoping the 32"s and lift (shout out OME & @HeadStrong Off-Road) gave it enough height in the rear to have avoided frame damage. Bumper reinforcement bracket doesn't show any obvious signs of damage. If the alignment is off at all, it's very slight.

    So is she totaled?

Damn it looks like that thing just drove through Jurassic park.

I’m not an expert but I can’t imagine that would total the truck. I absolutely hate drunk drivers.

If the chassis is bent, it’s safe to say it would be totaled.

There are a lot of parts that are damaged. It looks like the truck is not totaled but a lot of cosmetic cost to repair. Go to a good body shop with a frame machine and make sure its all square then get it repaired and on your way.

Insurance companies are nuts. They will total anything with easily repaired frame damage. The bed side is something that can be taken off and a new one bolted in, or the entire bed can be replaced, but if the left rear frame rail has a slight kink they will total the truck.

Need a pic from the back...

Made the classic mistake of moving when I should have held still. Drunk drivers' vision is based on movement.

Good to hear. My ace body shop (Austin Body Works, for anyone in the area) is booked out till July. Found one reputable shop that has availability before mid-May. Getting towed there this morning so we'll see what they say. Availability of parts is another question....

Mine's 20k in repairs deep and waiting on a control arm (backordered and TSB i guess?) and they never considered totaling it out so yeah... I doubt this one is.

You said it brother. I've defended a fair amount of auto claims for various insurance companies, which should give me some leverage, but property damage claims are almost always settled before litigation. (Feel free to make lawyer jokes, I understand why nobody likes us).

Well this just sucks. Glad you walked away...only thing that matters.

I won't comment on drunk drivers due to the probability of banning myself for 30.

    Oh look, another mod....
This is something that only your insurance company can determine. Not a bunch of strangers on the internet.

    Glad that you're okay!

This doesn't show on the back where the gaps between the bed and cab are clearly "not to factory spec". Took a 50mph hit to the driver corner. So there's hope.

No word yet--just happened Sunday, struck out trying to find a good shop with availability on Monday, just had 'er towed yesterday afternoon. Will update when I found out.

Good news is that liability has been accepted. Hopefully it won't be too much of a fight getting them to reimburse for the hitch swing carrier, which was obliterated above the lower arm. My major concern after repairability is whether there's enough coverage for my truck and the late model Bimmer involved. If I had to guess, I'd hazard the dude had a minimum policy, which is going to run out pretty quick if the other driver if anyone claims injuries. I've got UIM coverage, but definitely would prefer to not use it.

Honestly, it was pretty minimal from what I could tell. That said, bodywork on those cars I ain't cheap and its pretty easy to total them out with something that should be repairable. I had a 2010 E92, which got totaled out from a banged up front bumper w/ ~95k miles. The re-sale value of BMWs just plummets after the warranty ticks out. (E92 was a great car though).
