I'd say totaled. Insurance companies make more money on salvaged cars now more than ever. Frankly I wouldn't want that thing back if it was my truck. It'll never be the same, IMO.

Just lingering concussion symptoms 3 months later. Jan 7th it happened and no ETA on return of my truck. I have a bet with my neighbor over under for July 4th. Hopefully none of your parts are indefinitely backordered like mine.

That all depends on what state your in and the threshold for total. I brought up if mine might be totaled and they got a bit snarky with me.

In Texas, value for a total loss is the fair market value in your particular geography, just prior to the loss. Generally FMV is based on comps. I'm in Austin, where everything is pricey, so I've got that going for me, which is nice. Haven't done an exhaustive survey but it looks like 2017 TRD OR 4x4s are going between $32-38k, irrespective of factory upgrades. I've got a few grand into my truck, which should be factored in but probably won't be without a fight... Most carriers, rather than using FMV, will use ACV (actual cash value) which tends to be lower because it factors depreciation/wear and tear, without considering market demand. ACV is then compared to total damage estimate, i.e. cost to repair, if the ACV vs. damage estimate is above a certain percent threshold, they'll total it out. Anything above 75% and that's all she wrote with most carriers.

They can always pull the frame or even replace it.

These “trucks” are made of butter… I’m in the process of getting mine repaired after what should’ve been very minor damage from a rear ender. The rear bumper is completely useless, it’s only purpose, it seems, is to serve as a cavity for overpriced sensors.
Yours looks totalled to me, sorry.

Frames arent really a write off thing as much anymore. ive fixed lots or Swap a new frame on. They dont cost a ton either in the big picture. I.had a similar experience in Vancouver with my 2016. The big thing is the cab repair.. if you look into it, these trucks are using an incredibly strong metal in the structure.. that severely limits repairing and makes the job wayyyy more involved due to how the repair is allowed to be done. HSS and UHSS cant be sectioned like regular non structural. I cant remember off hand but i think they are using boron aswell in the cab. Id say it would be close to a write off but not sure american insurance companies work. depending if the composite box is damaged or not thats probly 3k alone. Cant quite see much. Its unfortunate for sure. Mine wrote off 3 months after i got it. It's all about occupant safety. Medical costs are an easy 1-3 decimal move when compared to vehicle repair costs. Just the way it is.

Jesus looks like it took out the gas port too. I don't know man, I've seen vehicles totaled for less. If your doors and hood do not open that's usually not a good sign.

Fking drunk drivers should be charged with attempted murder -
The charge should be a felony with a 1 year minimum on first offense and lose your license for 10 years.
Second offense should be 5 years and lose license for life.

In Saudi Arabia the chop your head off on first offense - oddly nobody is ever charged with a second offense over there.
    Works for me.

Texting while driving should carry very stiff penalties too.

I'd love to buy this bike and planned on it when I moved to Phoenix a few years ago, however after seeing at least
1 fatality a week out here due to idiots I had to curtail my desires.... idiot drivers mostly drunk or texting.

Literally purchased a steel bumper the week before the accident for that very reason, but hadn't had time to install it. Had it been on the truck, it seems like it may have just ended up distributing more of the force to the frame but that's just pure speculation from someone who got a C in high school physics.

Yeah, those pictures aren't great. The bottom rear corner of the cab was banged up--looks like its 440 MPa HSS section on the diagram. Thanks, very informative post.

Gas port is obliterated, but the the connection to the hose and evap system seem intact. I'm definitely not holding my breath at this point.

Say what you will about the downsides of absolute monarchy, but Saudi has an admirably aggressive approach to public safety. Unfortunately, it takes two prior DWI convictions before you're eligible for felony prosecution in Texas.

yeah i figured as much. The amount of interweaving of each part and the nightmare to replace anything on those damn cars would lend itself to a car that holds itself together well.

Actually, he did. Scared shitless kid, sweating bullets. His radiator was in a million pieces on the frontage road, so he wasn't going to get far.

A little physical deterrence probably would have done him good, he definitely deserved it, but people have gotten shot for less and I'm not really trying to catch an A&B charge

Kid said it was in his "dad's work truck"--Chevy 1500, looked like mid 2000's. If his dad is anything like other dad's with work trucks in Central Texas, I reckon he got the Will Smith treatment when he got home--at the very least.

I'd be mostly concerned with the cab damage and the rear axle housing being bent. Sorry to see your truck like that.

I worked as an estimator at a high volume collision shop for a little while. I've seen MUCH worse repaired. Given how these trucks hold their value I suspect it will likely be fixed. But the doors not opening is not a good sign. Could be big dollars there. We had a lifted 4 door wrangler come in once. Apparently the woman was drunk, ran off the road, took out a fire hydrant and smashed into a tree. She tried to drive away. Unfortunately the fire hydrant ripped the steering box in half. We fixed that one and it was REALLY messed up.

I definitely request the shop use OEM parts. Alot of factors determine whether it's totaled. If the repairs are 75% of the vehicles value it may be totaled.
