Is slight feathering of tire tread normal?

Copy on all. I’ve been using a rearward cross rotation pattern. (Rotated this past weekend).. Oddly enough, post-rotation the steering pulled to the right, when before, it drove straight as an arrow.

This morning I swapped the driver and passenger front tires. All pulling to the right disappeared and truck drives straight again. Considering doing an X pattern rotation now to “burn” some of the very minimal feathering away as now all tires are rotating in the opposite direction from what they have been before the rotation.
Seriously wondering why the rearward cross cause my steering pull to the right?.. hmm..

The Owners Manual does not recommend cross rotating.
