In cold climates the ground underneath the snow is frozen and a locked diff is not going to do much good unless you run chains

Maybe it was not clear, it was a comment from another thread regarding brake wear and ATRAC that made no sense either. :D

if your in 4lo on ice and snow with the rear locked, chances are youd be in some nasty shit... my point is that buying a trd offroad doesnt mean you have to drive around in snow with it locked up. What about when he does get stuck or need 4lo. the locker would be nice to help.

of course op is taking about mts on 20s so its a safe bet hell never really need a locker but people learn and change so he may kick himself in the ass later for not getting one.

Also, you say why get a trd OR if you dont need it... Why did you get a trd offroad? better to have and not need than to need and not have?

I don't have a vested interest in what the OP gets , but to answer his question , if he is only worried about snow , he can just get a 4x4 SR5 and save some money .

Trying to sell someone on the benefits of a locker and ATRAC when he has stated he never offroads and is only concerned with driving in snow on roads doesn't make much sense either

Agreed, he should have no problem with a 4x4 SR5. 4 Hi did just fine all last winter in the snow. It really depends on whether OP is going to off road a bunch or not...

    True!

Unless he just wants to have it all (for the future or a surprise need)?

ARB lockers are great. Not cheap tho ... about $1800 installed around here.

    he made a few statements

    1. i didnt use the locker in my old truck that much (that much indicates he did use it at least a few times)

    2. he said lots of snow and he loves driving in it with occasional trail runs

both of what he said indicates to me he may want to expand what he does.

he may use the systems. Hes also talked about getting ARB if he doesnt get a trd offroad.

so the trd offroad is a good option for him

    :notsure:

Like I said , I have no vested interest in which model the OP buys .

Lockers and ATRAC have zero benefit for travelling on snow covered roads .

If the OP wants an Offroad he should get one , just not under the assumption that it will be more capable in snow than an SR5 4x4

yea this is true... when i picture (i love to drive in snow) i imagine driving in "snow" like 2'+ with 3-5' drifts.
