It's where the power is made. Its noted in nearly every review of the truck and the most common complaint here.

If the power delivery is fine stock why'd you tune yours?

    I know… Seating position… fuel economy… power-band… drum brakes… transmission… etc… etc…

All true, but I love my shit-box anyway.

I always liked the comparison since, from what I've witnessed, vans get driven into the ground and then driven some more with very little thought given to maintenance.

If you read my early posts, I never had complaints about power. The only reason I flashed my ECU is because MT guys were raving about how much more fun it is to drive and I like the idea of running 94E0. Well it improves MPGs a bit.

My truck was fun to drive stock, except the stupid accumulator and throttle response. With the tune it’s an absolute beast.

I’ll say for the 100th time, I’ve got no issues where the power is made. My tach barely goes over 3K RPMs and that includes towing around town. Unladen I shift 2200-2500. My truck is lifted, carrying constant weight and on 33s. I’m still able to get stock MPGs thanks to the tune.

I’ve got so many pictures going up hills, even towing. My tach does not go over 3500 but folks think I’m lying and that’s alright. I know my truck better than anyone on here.

This is why it confuses me, I’m seeing 4-5k RPMs being thrown around on here. My truck is so jerky at those RPMs and has so much power that I’m only at that RPM range when passing or performing Italian tuning.

Maybe it’s because I have 4.30 rear gears and MT I dunno. Although, I drove 2 2019s AT in city/highway and they drove like any other AT I’ve driven. Press the throttle she goes faster, floor it and she flies.

It actually makes me laugh when grown men complain about power on the 3rd Gen Tacoma. Are people getting that spoiled that getting 0-60 in 7 secs is not good enough?

I have absolutely zero issues driving in town, highway, towing or off-road. Would love a slower crawl ratio but that’s not happening.

What are people doing with their pick up trucks that they need supercar acceleration?

It’s threads like these that get manufactures to put increasingly expensive powerful engines into these things for the 0 to 60 crowd and drive the prices up where no normal person can be bothered to buy one.

Hey, Mr. dealer man, I need a mid size pick up truck to haul junk to the dump and carry my mountain bikes.

Have you looked at the new 500 hp Tacoma Compensator? It’s only $125,000 before mandatory $30,000 dealer markup! It has seating for seven and a 2 foot bed! Our marketing department looked at Instagram for two or three hours, and this is what people want.

Littering the freeway with unsecured bags of <fill in the blank>. Spreading unsecured 2x4s on the road. Maybe.

Glad you're happy with your truck; I am too but that doesn't mean I can't have some things that bother me about it. As much as it may be unfathomable to you that people think our trucks are underpowered its just as unfathomable to me that people think its some kind of rocket.

Power is adequate but nothing to write home about. And 0-60 is largely an irrelevant metric here because what most people are complaining about is the lack of bottom end and all the power being up top. I've yet to see anyone complain about WOT acceleration.

    Fair enough man.

Like I said, I have zero issues with low end. I really don’t understand these complaints.

If you compare it to Chevy 454 that makes like 430 tq at like 1700 RPMs then yeah.

6 years using my truck like a truck and I find low end completely adequate. My tach barely sees 3k RPMs. It definitely becomes a rocket past 4500 or so.

Going up hill in 3rd at 2500 RpmS while towing my extra tall 6x12 with bathroom tiles that I removed today and bunch of tools. Light throttle application. 7300# at the landfill scale.

    I finally figured it out
You're measuring speed in KM, that looks faster than MPH, that's why everyone thinks it's slow.

If Toyota weren’t cowards they’d offer the Tacoma with a B58.

I drive a four-cylinder in the Bay Area, where people drive like absolute Mad Max psychopaths, and the on-ramps are ridiculously short and I usually have the truck loaded up with a few hundred pounds of crap that I’m taking from Home Depot or to the Republic dump.
