    Exactly.

0-60 in 7ish seconds is “slow” for some? That’s plenty for normal everyday driving.

Absolutely zero issues with power over here.

I have had two 22Rs, it is amazing how far we have come.

There are dyno charts out there (too lazy to look them up) iirc the 3.5 makes 80% of peak below 2000 rpm, but don’t quote me on that.

Most of my driving is 55 and below on country roads and some in town, ECT almost makes it too punchy, the soft power delivery works perfect for my style of driving. The people who do complain must race stop to stop, which I usually end up sitting right behind or bedside them at those stops. :D

It’s funny how heads think a motor’s place is ONLY on asphalt. Shiiiiiiit:rasta:

You got the balls to thrash your 3rd Gem for a few, and you’re not afraid to snap the small driveshaft up front/CV’s, but you don’t have a tune, no worries, the formula still applies.

    4LO + TRAC OFF + ETC = YOU’ll NEVER GO BACK TO THINKING IT’S A “turd.”

Of course we all agree that “slow” is a relative concept. And subjective.

So I can’t help but wonder if the folks paying big money for iForce motors right now can fully appreciate that in only a few months the Max version with 148 more ft/lb of torque will officially relegate them as being “too slow” for a whole new (and no doubt vocal) generation of owners over the next 8 years or so.

In effect, the “new” iForce will take over for the old 2.7.

Yep, I’m good with my 265 hitting at 4600, for now at least.

I don't necessarily think it's weak. I think from the factory, the engine is just tuned in a way to optimize fuel economy and reduce emissions. As a result, it feels sluggish at lower RPMs. Once you get up in RPMs the power is there. I used to think the 3rd gen was "weak", but since I started towing my 2500-3000lb boat with it, I've really come to appreciate how much power it really does have. Tows the boat extraordinarily well. It truly is a work horse. My truck is all stock, and I think I'll keep it that way. It does whatever I ask of it.

The 4.0 is junk too, only makes 1/5 the torque of my 6.7 Cummins and doesn’t have nearly as many electrical gremlins to keep you awake on long drives

    I remember seeing those.

Plenty of torque below 2.5K RPMs over here. I can’t even imagine driving at 4-5k RPMs like some folks are mentioning on here. My truck has way too much power at those RPMs and it’s too jerky for normal driving.

    This man speaks the truth.

One gentleman on here said 3.5 is slow because it doesn’t do 0-60 in 3 secs.

Where and when do you need this kind of acceleration. Am I missing something?

My other Toyota 4x4 is a 3rd gen 4Runner so the 4.0 compared to that might as well be a built 2jz.

I don't think the general public should be allowed to buy or drive 0-60 in 5 second cars, let alone 3 second cars without some sort of proper schooling. I bet after said proper schooling you wouldn't care to drive a 3 second car on public roads. This isn't to say you couldn't handle it. It's to say other drivers who have no concept of "share the road" will ensure your untimely death.

Since we’re all getting loaded, talking smack (Born and raised in East L.A. In my hood, everyone talked smack about their moms. It was brutal! Especially when the first pay TV came out. Anyone remember ON? Well, it was brutal smack talking when we was all watching porno LOL!!!!! You’re mom this and that. Fudge, those kids’ days were fun) here at the TW Cantina in the middle of nowhere…the KDMAX hometowns transformed my Taco into a nice daily driver. Starting to average 22 with a moderately heavy foot. I just hope the fellas work with SEMA :fingerscrossed:It is indeed sad that Toyota Japan de-tuned this motor. It’s a great power plant. So is the 3.4 Shoot, that’s what they should have turbocharged in the Tacoma. Then I would have certainly paid what they are asking for.

This tech modder in the video swapped for a Camry intake. That’s trick. He should go further and polish the aluminum intake runners if he hasn’t.

Tacomas are not fast trucks by ANY measure. And they aren't built to be fast.

It's an overweight midzise pickup, it doesn't haul heavy, it doesn't get good gas milage either.

How any of this is either news or controversial is beyond me
