Looking at real nice 2012 one owner with 55000 miles.
The mgm on the hood and roof are going.
I do plan to repaint and clear.
Would having the whole truck buffed by body shop be a recommendation after painting those areas and would having the truck ceramic coated be worth it.
I know nothing about ceramic coating .
    Thanks

Reviving this thread because I am going through the same issue (black paint) and I have some info to report after speaking with the DLR: DLR tech and paint guy knew exactly this was a Toyota paint issue, but Toyota hasn't approved non-white Tacoma paint repairs. They both advised me to make a complaint to Toyota so the data is there for them to issue a repair campaign. Right now only white paint of Tacomas was approved because enough white paint Tacoma owners and owners of all white Toyota models complained, leading to some vehicle review sites posting pictures of the terrible paint jobs.

If you have an issue with the Gen 3 paint (regardless of the truck color), I urge you to make a complaint with Toyota and the NHTSA in writing. In writing tends to make people actually do their job, and it gives you a receipt/copy of when you made the complaint. In my experience, if enough people complain to the NHTSA, they will start investigating, or some vehicle review sites will pick up the complaints and give it more publicity.

Who knows, with enough publicity later down the road, Toyota might do the right thing, and we may get a free paint job.
