Is the ‘21 TRD Pro Worth it over the cheaper versions?

$2700 Under invoice, I got a really good deal.
I reached out to every Toyota dealership within 150 or so miles

I believe MSRP on my truck was right about 44k, I paid about 38k

Nothing a Pro can can do that an OR can't...so no, not even a little.

But if if you like it better and can afford it, then who cares. Smiles per dollar matters.

This ^ in the current market of MSRP for any TRD, Pro is the better option, prior to this, many, myself included were getting 8-12% off MSRP, which makes a fully loaded OR a much better option.

The TRD exhaust is quite annoying on the highway. Just get an Off Road premium.

Like most already said, I t’s really up to what you want or how you plan to use the vehicle. Unfortunately at the end of the day nobody can answer that question better than you.

I will add this about the Pro, and probably be rustling someone’s jimmies while I’m at it...

TW member: “The Pro is a rip off for what you’re getting. I wouldn’t pay that much extra for suspension upgrade” :pccoffee:

Also TW member: proceeds to buy pro grill, pro style headlights & taillights and weather mats, Pro skid plate, aftermarket suspension, leather seat covers, pro wheels, pro shift knob, etc... spending more in parts, shipping and labor/time than they would have if they just purchased a pro.

    Now, bracing for impact

The Tacoma is probably the best value out of the TRD Pro lineup. I think the TRD Pro Tacoma has more unique features over the Tundra, Sequioa, and 4Runner Pro. Tacoma Pro is also the lowest priced TRD Pro truck.

You know, I just wanted the pro. Got a good price on it and went for it. No looking back. No wondering what if... Simple fact. Buy what you can afford because you will likely own it for many years after pay off. I did the same thing with the wife's 4 Runner. Only she didn't want to go Pro, she wanted the Limited (chick thing) I guess. Either way, happily ever after with both of us in our 60's.

    LOL … sounds like me!
I would have gone Pro but the California dealers were marking them up way too much.
Cheaper to build your own “Pro” lol.

$25k markup is just ridiculous. You can buy a new Camry with that money.

I originally bought an auto ‘21 Off-road last November and kicked myself for not buying a manual. In June I decided to consider trading in my truck for a manual and the dealer just so happened to have a MT Pro showing up in a couple weeks. I went ahead put the deposit down and traded my off-road in. It was totally worth it to me. Plus they gave me thousands more for the off-road than what I paid for it new. Free money :bananadance:

I agree with this post. However, be warned that there are literally 100s of very tempting upgrades.. which may inevitably lead to suspension upgrades. Things quickly spiral out of control from there.. speaking from personal experience. What I can say, is that the TRD Pro badge is gratifying.. at least to me.

I agree for the most part.. the issue is, plans tend to change! I know several others that have gotten PROS with absolutely no intention of upgrading the suspension. A few trips over slightly moderate trails changes things. First to go for me was the ridiculous Predator steps offered on the TRD Pro. Not by choice either.. they were easily bashed.

-Shmellfab rocksliders.... -BD ditch lights -Cali raised ditch light brackets -Sway bar discos -Auxbeam aux 6 gang -Uptop Bravo -Rci trans skid -Rci cat guards -Trd pro eibach lift springs -Hypertech speedo calibrator Etc.
Another way to look at it, is if the trail is “moderate,” I’m not bringing a toyota…or a truck. Chances are we’ve entered jeep territory.

When we start talking about trail difficulty to justify purchases, IFS is not the way to go. Idk about this new bronco and some of the others out there but on the Taco, you can’t even disconnect the sway bar without doing a complete delete. Even, so…the articulation STILL sucks without turning a daily driver into a designated trail rig…in which case…no you shouldn’t get the pro. Tacoma’s modified for intermediate to difficult trails or offshoots are not great to travel with and sure as shit don’t make good daily’s. Most pro owners want the best of both world. A daily, that can off road better than the off-road.

I kinda went the same route, but price figured into it.
Originally, I wanted the OR with a few amenities. Unfortunately, there was nothing in the area in the package I wanted, in a color I liked. The salesman told me it would be months if I ordered, and I honestly didnt want to wait that long. He said he had a Sport, in WCP, with an MT on the way from TX, if I wanted it. I ended up taking that.
I figure I will do some mods at some point. The only real performance upgrade I plan on doing is a minor lift, which will be in a couple years. Certainly not anytime soon. And, that will cost me less than $1k, doing it myself-vs the $1500 from the dealer.
When I REALLY thought about what I would use it for-95% of the time, a DD, with occasional off road use, on likely nothing more difficult than forest service roads-it came down to what I could afford, and what I realistically would use it for. The only thing I gave up that I wanted was the locking diff. But, I got a MT out of the deal, so I was happy.
