Imo, unless your serious about off roading, and beating the hell out of the most expensive tacoma....have at it, its a free country. I'd rather build a beater to do that stuff. Then on the other hand some just need to boast they own a pro, and rarely, or never even take it on a dirt road. Different stokes for different folks.

Is it worth it? No. Am I buying one anyway? Yes.

I don't plan to do many mods to mine, so in that way, it has a bit of value.

In Canada my MT options were a Sport, an Access Cab, or a Pro. I went with the Pro.

I can afford it. I've been driving $3000 trucks my whole life. Time to treat myself. I'll still run it hard but it probably won't be a bush-beater like I've had in the past.

    What?

You don't need a jeep or solid front axle to run moderate trails. Tacos with no to minimal modifications do just fine on moderate trails, I run mine on difficult trails with just a 2.5" lift, good 32" tires, and some skid plates. And, it still daily drives just fine.

Shit, a Subaru can do most moderate trails.

I wanted an MT double cab, and would have preferred an OR, but not a choice in Canada. Considered going the pro route but just couldn't muster the extra $. So for me, buying the Sport has become like a lay away plan. Instead of paying for everything I want up front, I am just slowly modifying as I go, and can afford.

Downsides - mods happen out of warranty, wait times and shipping grind away at one's sanity, I didn't get everything I wanted right away, there are sure to be some missteps along the way (mismatched equipment etc)

Upside - I can be more specific about the mods I really want, turns out I really enjoy the whole process behind researching/sourcing/ applying new mods, I was able to afford/purchase my truck sooner.

Another point, can get a long bed on an off road. Can't sleep in a short bed unless, you know, you're really short also.

If you want a Pro and can swing it, no reason not to. Life is short, buy what you like not what someone else thinks you should buy.

Only in TW not only can you debate the same topic 1800 times, but bring it back from the dead months later.

Yeah, no. I think our definition of moderate is a little different. I’m talking about the actual trail rating…so if you’re on a actual moderate rated trail…and not just struggling on the bypass the whole time…post it up, prove me wrong. List the trail.

Those trails that are so popular like broken arrow, 95% of Moab, and the one that all the Californians are making videos about, cleghorn, are easy trails…I’d like to see you wheeling rated moderate trail with 32s lol. A hard trail is the rubicon…for reference…

Yeah, yes. I think your definition of moderate is sandbagged as fuck. Moderate trails are a step up from easy trails. Don't make up your own rating system and "lol" when someone calls you on how terrible it is.

Here's a smattering of quantified rating systems, do a ctrl+f and see where the word "moderate" pops up.

Don’t make up that you’re doing difficult trails on 32s. I’ m aware of the trail ratings..that’s what im trying to tell you. And I asked you to prove it..you deflected…

No, you're quite obviously not aware of the trail ratings since you saying you need a Jeep or solid front axle to do a trail one step above easy, LOL.

I have done a difficult trail (Kelly Flats) on 32s, a lot of other people have done it too. You sound like you might need some more experience.

That's the chutes, which is a b-line, rated way harder than the rest of the trail. Do some more research.

No it’s a part of the trail rating

FFS, were you dropped on your head as a child or just neglected?

    Kelly Flats:
Rating 5-7 difficult to severe, with the 7 and "severe" ratings referring to The Chutes. Most drive the trail without the chutes since you need a heavily modded truck to do it, which I don't have. The rest of the trail (rated "difficult) can be done with 32s and a modicum of skill. Again, maybe you need to work on your driving skills and build your experience and context for variability in trail ratings instead of trying to gotcha some random guy on TW.

If the TRD PRO was a V8 or had double lockers, then yes.. it would be worth it. Even more so if you had no plans to upgrade and keep either truck stock out the door forever.

You have to look deep down in your soul if you plan on upgrading shocks, wheels, suspension and if you do... get the TRD OR.

You started this. You responded to try to “correct” something because I said that I wouldn’t take a Tacoma or a truck in general that is a daily on a moderate to difficult trail.

    Then you linked me https://jeepjamboreeusa.com/trail-ratings/

and made unfounded claims of what 32s can do as well as try to “educate me” on trails. I’m just trying to navigate your point. So let’s look at it…you linked me the above link.

You’re arguing with your own points…I’m just here letting Friday happen dude. I also don’t find the person I’m trying to have a discussion with too intelligent when they start reaching for insults. If I’m wrong I’m wrong but so far you are just pulling a fauci.

A well appointed OR at MSRP or Pro at MSRP is the same $$$. (I’d say you are a bit ahead with the PRO if you’ll add PRO bits to your OR (grill, bash plate, etc) ANYWAY…

Not much of a debate in my case - even if I would be happy with either. The manual transmission was the priority.the color was the bonus.

My use will be sometimes challenging, off-road, but always quite well within the PRO’s capabilities. I don’t at all pretend I have a crawler. (Or want / need such a beast.)

The additional benefit is that when it (iF) comes time to sell, trade the vehicle; (semi-stock pro vs modded OR) which will command a higher price in the market in 5 - 10 - 15 years?

    - In the exact condition; The modded OR will be clearly penalized in the market (this is clear with any OR vehicle) while I’d confidently argue that a stock PRO will command a nice *premium over the average similar tacoma - that WOULD be True even when not considering the nostalgia / rarity value that the PRO may (should) have at that time.

Therefore the wasted $$$ is clearly suffered in the OR.

*With MT - surely at least double the ORs value! :D:thumbsup:

Honestly if you are asking whether or not you should get it. I advise you to pay the difference and get the PRO. No regrets.
