Yeah they only things that don't work on my 97 LC are the antenna and cassette deck.

I’ve had an 86 4Runner, 2004 single cab prerunner, 09 AC TRD OR 4x4, and now a 21 DCLB OR 4x4. So far for me the 09 was the most bullet proof, though all of them made it over 200k pretty worry free. The 09 is an MT with over 300k. It’s on its 3rd alternator and 2nd driveshaft. A few batteries. That’s pretty much it…normal wear and tear stuff. The only one that ever left me stuck was the 4Runner when it blew the head gasket. And I think someone mentioned it earlier, but yes, the 22re drank a lot of oil.

Yeah IMO the 2TR-FE is the pinnacle of Toyota 4 cylinders where they just figured it all out.

I think it just does't get the hype of the 22re or 3rz since it was fairly underpowered for the heavier 2nd gen.

I feel this way about most engines from that era. They got it all figured out somewhere between 2005-2010, and then in the time since have been increasing complexity to chase more power and fuel economy. Now we’re getting into turbos and cylinder deactivation, which increase complexity and reduce reliability.

Yeah tell me about it. Now that I'm in TX for the month, it's been almost 100F every day and the AC works better than my 2015 Chevy.
