Yeah, have to wait and see with the 2016 2.5gen uhhh 3gen Tacoma, but after test driving a 2015 Canyon and Colorado I'm not real impressed.

They're not much better than my 2012 SR5 Tacoma and I think that will be proven over the next few years. Maybe a little quieter cabin, but not by much over the 2012 Tacoma.

The Twins sure as hell and taxes can't match even a 2012 SR5 Tacoma in offroad capability because they have less stock ground clearance and the mid-axle rear shock mounts. Try to match the 2015 Twins to a current TRD OR and they'll fail miserably.

The Twins apparently tow a little better with the 305HP/269 torque motor, but running at redline 6800 RPM. I'm not a fan of high redline motors in trucks. Toyota will better that I'm positive about that, same or better HP and torque with a lower redline, probably a better torque curve. The Toyota 3.5l has already proven to have 90% of peak torque at 2000 RPM, and flat thereafter up to peak RPM at apx 5500 RPM.

The BFD about GM's new V6 was MPG, but a longterm test at 7500 miles showed 17.5 MPG combined and they towed only 600 miles.

I'm sure the 2.5gen uhhh 3rdGen Tacoma will best the Twins. It's not all that difficult to do so. The Gen 2 Tacoma SR5 is already damn close to besting them in overall capability.

Same here too. This is my take .....after being in the Toyota truck buying habit for thirty years.
The 4.0 back in 2005 after two years of faithful service in the 4Runner, was one of the most advanced 6 cylinder truck motors on the market. Every review praised the performance of the engine transmission while dissing the then wanna twins early on. They have just about caught up in performance but the 3 g will leap frog it again. It has to be discouraging; but maybe not.

By their own admission from what I have read, GM really can't go after Taco buyers. They are going after the big truck buyers who I believe are the "will only buy American brand mind set" who bought F150s over the years. People who really wanted a small truck, wouldn't buy a Toyota / Nissan for "Apple pie" reasons and over the years bought big Fords they really didn't want. All these buyers had for small trucks were Rangers and really poor Quality GM products.

I have friends over years who have fit this mold and one bought the new Colorado and one is planning to. Mho, they are the new norm for non Taco buyers. Tacos could come standard with diesels and sell for Less then $20k and these buyers would not consider them. They won't even try out a Toyota product. I have three of them as neighbors too, and I think it's more common then many would like to admitt.

    Shipping Wars..

Some of them are better than others..and I think some of them almost play the part of being less knowledgable than usual, IE Jarrett the guy you mention with the van.

True, but I'll trust a small courier trucking company long before I trust an opening bidding process on the internet.

I can't remember which one of the older guys did an independent interview and basically said half of the people on U-Ship are just there trying to make a quick buck with there dads van. I'd say he's probably right, and I wouldn't trust that sort of person with delicate or expensive items.

Yeah in that anyone can get on there, there were some illegal operators such as no DOT# for one thing. And yeah I wouldn't let just anyone haul expensive stuff.

I bought my 2013 in 2013 for the following reason. I don't use my Taco every day and don't put alot of miles, but I want a reliable truck. Mostly I tow by 67 Barracuda Convertible to shows and also tow one of my 4 Lotus cars to shows. Prior to the Taco I owned an 04 Avalanche which I purchased new. I sold it in 13 to purchase the Taco with 48,000 miles on it after 10 years. In that 10 years, the gauges went out twice with the gauge pac being replaced twice. The Transfer Case was replaced under warranty. The 4WD electronic module was replaced TWICE. Once under warranty, once out of my own pocket. The transfer case was replace a 2nd time out of my pocket. Three of the four power windows needed new motors. The remote drivers side mirror stopped working. The steering dampner was replaced twice. All four rear axle control arms were replaced. I spent nearly $5k in repairs. It had never been off road, or in an accident. I'm in my sixties. Hmmm, would I consider purchasing the new Colorado? I don't think so.!!!!! Repairs to the Taco since purchase in 13, wiper blades and oil.

My transfer case went out twice on my first truck on my dollar (2001 GMC Sierra GFX Z71) so I feel your pain. GM still can't design a transfer case or front end right. We just had two 2014's at work go in for both of those problems, and we only have 3 at work!

2006 Chevy Colorado had the head failure at 75k. GM and 2 dealers lied to me every step of the way about the secret warranty. a "free" repair cost me about $2000. Fuck that.

I don't know why your wiper blades failed so early, I just replaced the stock ones on my '11 AC, with 60k miles. I just remember trying to keep my 90 Chevy van alive between 150k and 200k miles, two transmissions, a rear end, and the body was rusted to swiss cheese...

And now quite a few "twins" owners are trying to figure out how to keep water from leaking into their trucks(since GM has no "fix" yet). Damn, that would piss me off. Glad I went with my Tacoma.:p

Well yeah, you drive a 2014. After 9 years Toyota better have worked out all the kinks. Things like the rear leaf TSB, the drive line vibe, gas pedal recall....oh wait, there never was a fix for the drive line vibe was there? :p

I've been crawling the ColoradoFans forum a bit to peek at what their users are saying and it actually seems pretty chill. Most people are pretty happy with their trucks and haven't had issues of any kind. Not surprisingly, just like here, there's a few people who experience some really wild shit that you wouldn't believe too.

For any of those interested, there is already starting to be a good list of basic to performance lifts/suspension for these new trucks. We are already adding a number of options to the site with more to follow!! [IMG][IMG][IMG]

Although many complained that the gen 3 Tacoma was not totally new (and it's not), there are some benefits to that. That probably allows more resources to be spent on R&D costs of new motor, to ensure it's long-term reliability.
Toyota's approach to the new Tacoma is a conservative one. They know their demographic does not really care about having class-leading HP/MPG 3's, but rather care more about QDR (real Taco-heads will know what that means). I saw the new Tacoma at the Denver Auto Show last night and it looks great in person, btw.

Chevy can't sell what they don't stock. Very few people are willing to order/buy a new truck sight unseen. But the little bit of inventory they are stocking seems to be selling fast. Believe it or not, I'm starting to see more 2015 twins on the roads here in Metro Detroit than 2012+ Tacomas.
