Had my 16 5 years next month, 48k, no leaks, no third brake light leak issue, fluid levels good. In the first few months going from reverse to drive there was sometimes a few second delay to engage, found out there was a recall, got it fixed under the recall never had an issue since. Other than that the truck is a champ so far.

I'm glad I got the 6 spd manual. I don't think I would have bought one being an automatic

The worst is over. You can all relax now and enjoy because the best is here.

    The worst:
The infamous CPS sensor - bad TOYOTA defect - problem solved
Leaking rear end - loose or improperly torqued rear end cover fasteners. Simple fix even a caveman can do it.
Leaking third brake light - If its not fixed by now on, it may never be a problem. Problem solved
Transmission low on ATF- a myth started here and by the software and some techs unfamiliar with the level check procedure

    The Best:
All the above problems solved under warranty, the coast is clear now.
No quirky and expensive TSS tech, a ticking bomb as far as I'm concerned that can cost $$1k to adjust or replace a dirty sensor.

Yeah, I'm enjoying the best of times, hoping that this '16 baby last forever and I don't get the seven year itch to trade the best of times for the worst of times.

Mines a 2016 w/112k miles. Bought new Jan 2016 w/4mi on the odo:

    CPS - nope
    Leaky diff - nope
Leaky 3rd brake light - nope
    Diff howl - nope
Window seal kazoo - in very stong crosswind only
Howling LCAs - yep, solved with $0.50 plugs from Lowe’s
Low trans fluid - never checked, has always shifted just fine
Timing cover leaky - yep, it’s a weep and wasn’t discovered until out of warranty. Has not turned into a “leak” yet
Loose spark plugs - dunno, haven’t changed them yet

With routine maintenance it’s been rock solid.

With that being said, I’d buy a MT if I were doing it again.

Honestly I've seen the 16s have the least amount of problems.
I've put on 170k miles on my 2016 DCSB OR M/T and I've done all of the maintenance myself and I've had 0 recalls or tsbs because I've had nothing go wrong with my truck. I'm SO glad I bought the manual transmission and would suggest it to anyone. I don't see any problem getting my 2016 to 500k miles. But I'm also not very picky and whiney, and some people are just ridiculous. For a 4x4 pickup it's one of the best available and personally I would only own a 16 or 17. To me the 17 pros are probably the most valuable of all the years to own.
My only regret was not getting a pro model but they didn't offer it on 2016 models.
    Good luck op!!

87k on my 2016. Only issue was BSM which was replaced with newer, updated sensors. Transmission might not shift as well as it should, but I’m so used to it I don’t care.

I like my 16 tacoma. It’s simple and basic and that’s all I need, although a electrically controlled seat would’ve been nice. The leaking third brake light is still an issue even with the newer models
