I have a 2001 taco and at first a thought it was pretty comfy, but like any car that you have owned, you start to notice things the longer you own it. To me the 1st gen doesn't have much leg room, width wise, and the brake pedal feels like it's too far in the middle. After about 20 minutes, I really get a bad cramp going up my right leg to my groin. It's a shame because I really like my truck, runs great, and I own it, but I don't know if I can see myself driving it for more than a year because of this. So to all you 2nd genners who have previously owned a 1st gen, did you experience anything like I have and/or do you find the 2nd gen to have more leg room and how is the placement of the brake pedal? Thanks.

YES it is. I also went from 1st gen to 2nd gen and it is way more comfy. I was not planning on it but test drove 1 for my daughter and fell in love. 2 months later bought 1, sold my 1st gen, never looked back.
    p.s. both are/were 4dr.

Buy a second generation TRD and it will be one of the most comfortable vehicles you drive.

IMO it's only natural that the next gen truck is better and more comfortable. Just a thought. I've driven both gens and the 2nd gen is a lot better interior size and power wise.

Had an 02, now and 09 TRD Sport. 09 is a little roomier but the ride is much better. I have aftermarket springs too. Stock shocks still.

....I was talking about just the front room wise. My 02 was an access and my 09 is a DC. No comparison there. DC fits two car seats in the back nooo problem.

Coming from an '03 Black Tacoma 4 dr 4x4 to an '05 Black 4 dr 4x4, it's no doubt much roomier, smoother, and more comfy.

Built for maximum low end torque, tooter II.VII intake manifold spacer, LCE long tube header, Injen long tube intake, 2,900 rpm torque peak.
I drove a 1st gen 1996 for 17 years and a 2nd gen 2012 for 1 year, and like the first gens better because they're not near as bulky and over the hood visibility is way better. The seating on the '12 is a little more plush than the '96. But overall, I'm happy with the newer one. :)

I'm probably going to get a 2011-2012 access cab. I would love to get the 4.0 auto, but I have seen some really good deals on the 2.7 5 speed. I saw two tacomas with around 20k on them and they were asking 23k. I'm sure I can get that down to 20k-21k. I use my truck mostly for the dump and lowes, so the 2.7 would be fine.
