The engine revs to 6.5. I feel like the people complaining are trying to drive it like a diesel. The real problem is the high gearing.

I have 5.29 gearing in mine with stock tires size and I love it. 75mph is something like 1800rpm.

I'd be very surprised. Do you have a source?

No it is not... I hear it will finally be what many have wanted... a 4.5 liter V8 diesel. Specifically 1VD-FTV, (The 4.5-liter twin-turbo V8 diesel from the 200 and 70 Series Land cruiser)

Dude, that is cruel just to suggest a diesel Tacoma in the US. You know how people camp out to buy new versions of Xboxs and PlayStations? That would be me at the Toyota dealership.

My first Toyota was an 83 4X4 with the 22R. You have no idea what underpowered means until you drive one of those daily. I think top speed was about 79 mph downhill. Uphill @ 65 mph was almost unattainable.

So sorry! Looks like I was duped by an AI 'report'. I'll look more carefully/critically next time.

    LS1 swap with nitros.
90% of the issue is the us government forcing mpg requirements from manufacturers. This causes them to develop smaller displacement engines vs ideal, make the vehicles larger, and engineer them for mpg and not performance. You don’t see a crappy Tacoma 3.5 in many other countries, right?

They are sweet. Took one on the big island up to 13k feet on Mauna Kea.

I got plenty of power for what I need to do. There’s mud on my roof right now from getting to those secluded fishing spots…

3rd Gen Tacoma has the same engine that the 3rd Gen (2017-2020) Sienna V6 has (2GR-FKS), just not turned sideways

Your '08 Camry has the 2GR-FE engine, same as the 2nd Gen Sienna and used that engine until 2017. It then changed to the 2GR-FKS which is the same engine the 3rd Gen Tacoma has.

It's all about valve and ignition timing curves for the application, plus the transmission gearing and final drive ratio as to which one feels or is faster or tows better. Vehicle weight also plays into the equation.

My 4L V6 in my 2011 Tacoma is just right, I think. It has all the towing power I need to pull loads that weigh 1-1/2 times what the truck weighs, and will cruise at 80 (without a towed load). My only gripe is the overdrive shift point, I wish it was a little higher in the rpm band, but then again, it's about torque curves and powerbands.

As for having a Sienna, we have had a 2006 XE since it was new. It steps out pretty well for a soccer-mom vehicle and ours now has 425K on it (transmission swapped at 280K). I still prefer my Tacoma. I've driven the 3rd Gen Taco and if you keep the revs up it is just barely quicker than my truck, but in normal driving it feels high-strung without actually being faster or better. At all daily-driver speeds, it's running at a higher rpm than the 4L does. For the 3rd Gen owners, what kind of average MPG figures do you see? I'm getting 17-21 all-around, unless I'm towing.

The exact same thing I could say about my Gen3; it can do 80 all day long without breaking a sweat, and can (and has) towed one and a half times its weight, through the mountains I might add, with no issues.

I typically see 19-22 for mixed driving and 22-24 when on the highway. As you said, towing is a different story; when I pull a loaded 4x8 I get up to 18, when I tow a loaded 5x8 I get up to 17, and when I tow a tandem axle 6x12 loaded to the gills, my mileage ranges from 14 to 15.5, depending upon whether I'm in the mountains, or on the flats.
