I'd do it again, but $5k for 100hp may not be worth it for some people.

Are these engines still reliable with the super chargers installed? As fun as the extra power would be, I wouldn't want to loss reliability .

It's more like 60 it takes a lot more than just the SC to get 100.

After all the stock TRD supercharged 4.0's I've driven I'd say no, they really don't pep up like the 5.7 tundra s/c.

I have yet to drive a tacoma with a URD upgraded s/c but I've driven an FJ with the 7th injector upgrade and a pulley.

That said, they are more reliable with the supercharger than most engines, I've yet to see a supercharger kill a 4.0, but I've seen two 5.7's die from factory superchargers.

Even if just the SC alone made 100 it wouldn't be worth it to most people.

Like I said, I'd do it again. It's definitely an improvement especially on the freeway.

I just upgraded to a 5.7 Tundra when it wasn't enough...makes the supercharger sound cheap:)

So yeah I actually was- funny story I had called the tire shop and decided to give the Rugged Trails a send off. Afterwards I found out that the tires where two days away so I had limp around on a tire showing its cords...the spare you ask? I had cut a side wall off roading and it was already dead too. good times!

Two of my neighbors just bought new Tundras. Both of them are lifted. They're freaking huge. I have no need for a vehicle that size. Extra power is nice I'm sure but those are some big heavy bastards too. My Tacoma is the perfect size for me.

I agree. I sold a 2500 Dodge with a 5.9 Cummins when I bought the Tacoma. This truck does everything I need from a truck right now. Not going back to a bigger truck, unless I need the payload and even then I would go 3/4 ton or larger....

I agree they are huge...I kept mine stock...and it's still huge! But shut off the nannies and the TC..it's a muscle car. I own and have owned LS swapped C10s....it would eat them for breakfast. Pretty good for a NA vehicle. It does suck to find parking though:)

SC is rated at 69hp after parasitic loss by Toyota. Add the 2.85 pulley stacks on another ~15 or so.

Also worth noting, the parasitic loss is 1/2hp when not in boost as the 2nd gen supercharger has a bypass valve for better efficiency, which is why effect on mpgs is minimal.

It was a great engine but maintenance costs didn't justify keeping it. Price a set of injectors for the 5.9 and you'll get an idea... even oil changes are 4+ gallons of oil.....

Yup my brother has one 600,000 still running...everything else is falling apart around that engine.
