As much as I think the superchargers are cool, I wouldn't spend the money on one, for standard street/offroad use. These trucks aren't fast regardless, so I have no desire to drive it that way. Maybe if you were running it in the desert or something and it wasn't a daily driver. But to run premium gas, spend the initial money to install, sacrifice some reliability etc, I just don't see the point. I have an R6 when I want to go fast. I'd say use that s/c $ and get something that is meant to go fast.

To get a supercharger is purely to look cool at meet ups.

Its a 4k part, on a $30K truck..... its not that special. Especially now that erryone got on the bandwagon.

That's exactly my point, everyone wants it because of bandwagon. It's still a slow truck after, plus fuel costs more and maintenance is tougher (the unit gets in the way), so what's the point? For cool points!

I have some other supporting mods in addition to my SC and I still dont consider it fast. But it sure is nice to have that extra power when needed for passing or towing. I bought mine after a drive to the mountains with a fully loaded truck. $5 or $6 more dollars a fill up isnt gonna make a break a deal for me.

I got mine for a killer deal and installed it myself (not that difficult) so heck ya I'd do it all over again without a second thought. I could care less about being the coolest of the crowd. The only down side for me is recently I had to leave my truck at a body shop and my boost gauge and calculated MPG pretty much verified what I thought, dudes were like "lets see how quick this thing is on the way to the alignment shop".

In regards to value, if it accomplishes what you wanted then yes its worth it. I have friends that put a $6K SC on their cars worth 1/2 of my Taco. Theres always gonna be a vehicle out there faster than yours so dont be that guy that walks around with his chest puffed out all the time. My other warning is the SC is kinda entry into the rabbit hole for other mods.

Dunno, had it a few years, well before the craze of "errmagurd toyota said no more" crapfest..... my gas was always 91, plugs are tougher yes, but not every 30k anymore.
Its fun to drive, but i dont go around popping my hood at every gas station hoping someone will ask wtf that is, and would rather blend in and not have my truck get a second look. I figure thats how crap gets broken into.

That was my main thing about it. Premium gas is expensive already, esp down here in Louisiana where it doesn't sell as much. Also i would like to drive one before i buy one. The problem is i dont know a single person in New Orleans let alone Louisiana with a supercharged tacoma.

Thanks for the detail! Question: do you think your initial lean issue may have stemmed from going down in pulley size AFTER flashing your ECU with the Bullydog tune?

I'd do it again too, worth of every penny ...at least for me. Just ordered 2.85" pulley and Spec-U headers.

I haven't really seen any new threads about superchargers but didn't want to start a whole new one so...

I've been tossing the idea around in my head about the Magnuson S/C kits. They retail for $4500-5000. Any other 'MODS' that need to be purchased on top of the basic kit? If you get the kit without the tune they provide, is it safe to at least drive it to get tuned after the install? Any other things that would sway you yes or no for a supercharger?

A little info about my truck and driving habits. 2014 v6 auto 4x4 with 50k miles. I don't need a supercharger this would be purely for fun and technically a waste of money. I've always been a car guy but don't have the room for a project car so i'm itching to do stuff to the Tacoma.

No regrets since I only paid a few thousand for it versus paying 7k installed from the dealer.

Get what makes you happy. Who cares what others think. Haters are gonna hate :p

Well in that case then, ask yourself how long you see yourself owning your tacoma. If its for a long time, then yes, absolutely pull the trigger. It changes the driving experience. If youre going to own for another year or two, than Nah....save your money for your next vehicle, or for a mod that can be used for a long time.

Here's the deal. From a practical standpoint, it doesn't make a lot of sense. But if you *need* to spend money on something, go for it, the SC is a ton of fun. There are definitely worse hobbies / bad habits people waste money on. Just as long as you realize the newness of it will soon wear off and you'll *need* to buy more stuff to get excited again.
