Is the 4.0 V6 happier with A/C off?

    Anyone else notice these trucks run pretty rough with the air-conditioning on?

    I've had only 4-cylinders prior and they barely go anywhere with the AC on, but I didn't think a big V6 would care about the load.

    My truck still gets up and goes, but shifts and overall smoother with the AC off.

    Never noticed any roughness at all. I do notice that if I turn it on while at a stop & in gear, you can feel a bump from the idle going up slightly.

    yeah i feel it when my ac is on in my v6. seems to be getting better the more i use the AC (maybe im just becoming used to it or its freeing itself up)

    Yeah, seems a bit more hesitant through the gears (up and down). Maybe rough isn't a great adjective...

    I recently ran 93 octane through my truck and it runs completely different from regular gas.

    Mine pulls a little bit of extra power when running but it's not too bad. My wife's 4runner does the same and has the identical motor.

    One can never have too many light bars.
    I wouldn't say rough but I do notice a little bit of a difference when I turn it on at idle. I know it zaps power but I don't think its enough to notice using the tried and true butt dyno.

    Butt dyno senses a -5hp change, and -.2 sec throttle response time. When i hit the drags its all lights and radio off to reduce drag on the alternator, and no AC. LOL

    Thanks for posting this. I was just going to post a question regarding the same thing. I've had my new 15 since May. Once before and just happened again today. I started her up and then turned the AC on and heard a staring noise, just for a second but loud enough for me to notice. Should I be concerned. Thanks in advance guys

    I've never heard anything to cause worry, my post is more just discussing the characteristics. You might have something else going on.

    Rough? No. A touch sluggish if you're light-footed, but it never feels like it's struggling. Still looking forward to it cooling down. It's a bit "happier" with it off.

    I notice a very slight power loss with AC on, and mainly just when the weather is hot (over 90°). In addition, lose at least 1 mpg.
