Nah, I’d never get used to being past by a John Deere farm tractor towing a wagon load of hay...;)

You rarely have an issue ? I never have an issue. Look around you. At least nine out of ten cars and trucks make you literally, the slowest car on the road at any one particular time, and not by a little. Maybe it’s driving in heavy traffic where 65 mph speed limits are a suggestion. It’s no fun being at the mercy of tractor trailor rigs.

If my trucks the slowest vehicle on the road how come I'm always passing mutha-fuckas? Slow drivers that's why. Doesn't matter if someone has 500 horses under their foot if they're half brain dead with 2 screaming kids in the back and the eye doctor on speaker phone.

It’s darn well is the slowest truck you can buy. This isn’t 30 years ago. Traffic is aggressive and stupid sometimes. A guy with the typical mattress tied to the roof, I want to be by him NOW.

Exactly. The difference is, I’ll be by that dufus on the phone quickly and on my terms. No one can argue, that having at least average power and acceleration, is better and safer then not.

Diesel Colorado is slower, and yet half the people on TW would cream their jeans if Toyota put a Diesel in the taco.

I would argue that even the v6 Tacomas are slower than average. I've driven the 4.0 and the 3.5, not impressed. Yes they accelerate quicker but the difference is marginal, we'd both lose to a run of the mill Civic.

Feeling superior for owning a v6 Tacoma is like being proud to be the smartest kid on the short bus.

These toyota trucks are reliable in general. As far as 4 bangers, I got 268,000 out of my 94 4x4 PU. I sold that one a while back. Now I have the 2.7 with 5 speed combo and I am just as happy with it. I also had a 3.4 and got 170,000 out of it. But was looking at the second timing belt change, along with the water pump. Annnnnnnd the valve cover gaskets. Other than that. The v6 was pretty reliable as well.

I have a 2.7 RC 4X4 and it's slow. Very slow. Where I live there is no such thing as "level" and I've got altitude to deal with as well. Having said that I love my 2.7. It's easy to work on and they last almost forever. The 6's last almost forever as well. The 4's aren't made to be driven on long trips. I've done it and it's a pain. Especially with one 7% grade after another where I live. I'll be the first to admit that if I lived where there is heavy traffic and everyone is racing through the "spaghetti bowl" at 80mph the 2.7 does post a safety risk opposed to a 6.

When I go to visit my dad every year in Reno in my Taco I have to deal with exactly that situation. After 3 years of talking about it I bought a Super Duty with the diesel and there is no shortage of power at all. Just more than I'll ever need. I still have the Taco and will never sell it but I won't be taking it to Reno to visit my dad next time. It's just too damn underpowered. 3rd gear at 4000rpm up a long 7% grade just doesn't cut it. The Taco will be towed behind the truck and camper for trail riding and grocery getting down the road.

Just some trivia here. I would have never got into debt for something as expensive as a diesel powered Super Duty except for the fact that I'm doing the RV thing when I retire. They are crazy expensive to buy and expensive to maintain all while requiring special driving techniques when you do drive them. In other words, once they are broken in if you aren't loading them up all the time ya have to drive 'em like you stole it and even in an 80mph state like mine that can get you a ticket real fast.

Since I run deathanol free in the Tacoma it really isn't much more expensive to drive the Super Duty 15 miles each way to work every day. It does cost more but not a whole lot more so I trade off. My Taco has 195,000 on it and I want the miles to stop stacking up the way they have been.

The bottom line is that you have to buy the vehicle that meets you're needs. If you want to go fast it's going to cost you. If you're comfortable going slow like I am where I live where there is very little traffic then you can save some money by going slower. My 2.7 RC does just fine here where I live. Yeah, it's gutless but it gets the job done on dirt trails, in the snow and ice and for running to the store around the corner and going to and from work. Not only that, it's stone reliable and I can count on it even if I do have to take a long trip in it with 750lbs in the bed.

The Super Duty still has to prove itself to me and that is going to take a looooonnnnng time. Probably as long as it takes me to pay the damn thing off.

So is this argument the same as in the third gen with the “which is better: off road or sport”?

nonetheless, I drive the 2.4 and have no issues in the highway. But, it’s as flat as it gets here.

The diesel Colorado has 180 plus hp and 360 plus ft lbs of torque.
I doubt very much that the Taco four is faster....except as a commuter going down hill and not under any load with no one but the driver and hot air. ;) and delivering pizza. When carrying much of a load, the diesel is much faster.
Maybe like 150 pizzas. That’s why people want a diesel.

yup, I said the v6 is marginal. Is that an excuse to buy an engine that’s incapable of delivering any pizza heavier then plain ? I hear pizza with anchovy’s isn’t allowed on interstate highways in the four taco.

I have the 4.0. It’s much faster accelerating from start then the 3.5 and I would bet, faster then the Colorado v6....At highway speeds, the 3.5 is very respectable with any other v6 in the compact truck line. Both are competive but not great. Yup, marginal as they all are. Only the turbo four Ranger is inspiring.

A similar version of the 2.7 in other vehicles is significantly more powerful. Nope Toyota wants to sell the v6. More mone

Loaded I'm sure the diesel Colorado is quicker, and no I'm sorry but the v6 beats both Tacoma v6s.

How many anchovy pizzas does it take to make 1800lbs? Cuz that's how much I've had in my 4 banger. IT EVEN MADE IT UP A HILL OMG.

Never had any trouble myself either. If I want to go faster I wind it up more. I doubt that I'd have made this choice living at altitude though. Then again, I bought a truck not a crotch rocket and didn't buy it for the pheremones. Never understood accelerating towards brake lights either.

I’ll take the six that lasts almost forever over the four that lasts forever, every day of the week. Almost forever is still longer then any truck engine has ever lasted or ever will.

Sure, and I routinely towed a 5000 lb pontoon boat too with a taco four banger. But it was slow, unsafe and raised hell with the drive train. The telling indicator of how weak the four banger is, the cookie cutter tires you are forced to run. Plus size any four banger and you’re looking at pizza with hamburger drag. Go ahead, plus size your tires, add any load, then race a tractor pulling a load of hay. ;)

I drive a decent amount for work (~15k/yr) and they provide a '18 Explorer with a plain jane V6 that puts out 290 hp. It always feels like you have to redline it to get any useable power. It is actually a pleasure to get in my truck at the end of the day, the 2TR feels more powerful off the line and more responsive to throttle inputs with the 5 speed. Being a 4x4 regular cab weighing ~3500 lbs, it's about 800-1000 lbs lighter than the Explorer.

I drive a 1-ton Chevy at work pretty regularly, it probably makes more torque at idle than the mighty 4.0L puts out period. It's probably quicker towing 5000lbs to 60mph than the 4.0L is empty.

Still prefer driving my slow ass 4 cyl.
