Is the AC cab going the way of the dodo?

Walked in with my printed sheet from the 'Build your Tacoma' site - or whatever it's called, and said 'this is exactly what I want'.
2021 SR5, AC, 4x4, Red, 6ft bed with a couple of other port added options like running boards and such.
Salesman said $500 deposit and we'll make it happen.
5 months later I got it. He did say they sold maybe 1 AC for every 15-20 DCs.My truck!.jpg

Makes me kinda rethink the current $34k offer the dealer has for my ‘18 DCSB OR. $6k gets the odometer set from 60k to zero. But kinda /= actual. I’ll stick it out with the current one.

Toyota takes the least popular body style: AC and the least popular Trans: MT and then only offers it in TRD OR in the small Canadian market. Huh??????

Just, give us a foot behind the seat for tools, gear, groceries and extend the bed the difference in length of the Access Cab. Hauling other people... don't other people have vehicles of their own and most families have another vehicle that seats more than two.

When I bought my A.C. in October of 19 it was the only one out of ~20 Tacoma's on the lot and the salesman actually said, they are hard to sale and almost acted like I was doing the dealership a favor.

I'm in SoCal and purchased my truck from a Toyota dealership in northern Oregon...it was the closest access cab I could find.

So it's been a year since I first posed this question (AC going the way of the dodo). Now I have a OVRLND camper on my OR AC. My 2016 has 105k Mi on the odo and has so far given me no troubles. Given the 4th gen is on the horizon I wonder if some of those "in the know" have heard whether the 6 ft bed will still be in the Tacoma line up. My choice would be another OR AC but could live with a DCLB if that's the only 6 ft body. If Toyota is going to phase out the 6 ft bed then maybe I ought look into getting a 2023 OR AC. I heard that the 4th gen specs might be out in Feb. and builds will start in Dec. Does that sound reasonable?

    Check build thread!
I actually don’t agree. They don’t even exist in Canada anymore. V6 4x4 only up here as of 2023.

I think the 4th Gen Access Cab will exist, but unlike the clamshell doors of the 2nd and 3rd Gens it will just have normal opening mini-doors.

A few, mainly added skids. I like leaving the suspension alone. I drive forest service dirt roafs in the desert west extremely extremely too fast. Toyota nailed this suspension going 65 across desert terrain. Changing it is dumb unless you have a specific need like crawling or mud.
When I bought this truck in 2007. The salesman assured me that the "access cab was the past" he also said my manual transmission would be a loser... I'm happy, my truck is happy. I wonder if he is?

It's a great question. The Access Cab is the best looking Tacoma configuration. The nicest Taco I've ever seen was an AC. I also see a lot of AC's locally in commercial use, usually with caps, by utility, exterminators, tree service, window cleaning companies, etc. Some are fleet purchases, so why would Toyota give it up? Would they continue a single configuration, such as, SR AC 2.7L 2WD after launching Gen-4?

GM axed their extra cab from the Colorado Canyon lineup. I think Toyota sells enough AC to keep making them though.

Since GM bailed out of the market, It may mean there is more sales potential for Toyota in the cheap pickup for fleet market

Access cabs are the best! 23 AC TRDOR on order, replacing the 08 AC TRDOR that replaced the 01 AC TRDOR.

Biggest sown side to the new GM trucks, can't even get a long bed crew cab. I guess GM says get a Silverado if you need more capacity, they'd rather sell you an electric Silverado as well.

Local auto zone has some new Frontiers King Cabs they also have some extended cab Colorados. I haven't seen any of the 5th gen Rangers over there, guess you don't need a turbo to run auto parts. They might still have a previous gen reg cab Ranger in the mix.

I will say when i had my first 4wd toyota wolverine conversion, and 79 toyota 4wd pickup, they were awesome when going off trail. The only problem they lacked a good secure dry place to store enough gear. I've had all access cabs since. They work out fine for my needs.

Looked for a new access cab with manual transmission to replace my 2017 2.7L access cab manual trans 4x4. Only 4 listed on auto trader. Why? Mine only has 50k miles. But I’d like to get the last model year. Any idea what mine is worth?

If I was Toyota I would sell a regular cab and a double cab. Do away with the extended cab. Offer the double cab with an available option to delete the rear seat and have a flat floor.

If the demand is there they will continue to build them as it always comes down to bottom line profits. If the primary use is work/fleet customers we may see the majority (if not all) made in the lower trims with the higher trims scarce to non-existent. It wasn’t easy finding my 2022 OR with all the fancy tech in an Access cab.

I specifically wanted an Access Cab. I don't have more than 1 other person in my truck and the jump seats will work in a pinch if necessary. It fits in my garage (double cab would not) and I much prefer the long bed. When I saw the dealer had this on the lot in the lime, I went for it without a second thought. Coming from a Colorado Access Cab as my trade in. 20221119_123513.jpg
