Hey guys dumb question I noticed the other day the area by the bump stop looked like it has heavy rust? I took a wire brush where the paint came off but no rust flaked off so I hit it with rustoleum rust reformer, I took my boroscope to look directly behind it and the back side looks perfectly fine, is it supposed to look like this? The rest of the frame is perfectly fine (SoCal truck) uploaded pics of driver and passenger side

Maybe it's just tar from the road or something that got flung on there while driving.
If you scrape it, what comes off?

I can’t scrape it off I even took a small sledge hammer to it and it’s pretty damn solid, only way it will come off is if I grind it off I reckon

Did you buy used? Sure looks like rust that got covered up.

Looks like rust that was painted over.
    or rust behind the paintwork.

Seen the like many times on used car dealerships painting over a rusty anything to make it look new.

Prior repair from previous owner or frame replaced? Do you see any non oem welds above that area?

That's what it looks like. My undereducated guess as to what caused that, is it was sloppy production. Does Toyota have robots or humans welding that part?

Your neighbor doesn't know what he's talking about. That is rust, grind it off, chip at it with a punch or screwdriver, it'll be pitted underneath the humps.

    Yeah, looks like rust.

Not a pro welder but I've seen my share of welds new and old, bad and good, and never seen "weld splatter" or "slag" that looks like that.

Isn't that right below where the ac drains out? If it's only on the passenger side that might be what's goig on.

No the ac drains out further back and that area is perfectly fine (it drips down on top of the frame) this is both driver and passenger side
