That advice from those guys has cost me a whole lot more than 100 dollars and 3 hours.

It definitely wasn’t gonna be cool in 15 min after driving it for a hour and a half. But I’m sure the service department wasn’t gonna tell him that

Yup. That's why it is never a good idea to show up at a dealership with an online diagnosis. Dealers HATE it.

Best thing is to state the issue, let the dealer diagnose it and resolve it.

It helps to make sure the dealer has every chance to replicate the issue, even if it means taking a service tech out for a spin. If still unsatisfied after we get the vehicle back, we go back to the dealer and repeat. If unsatisfied with the dealer, try another one or open a case with Toyota.

Seems like a waste of time but that’s how the warranty procedure works.

I don't know man, I love when a customer comes in with his own diagnosis. I verify with him twice that he wants me to do _______. When he says yes, my buddy said or I read online that it is probably _______. O.k. So I will change out whatever part he wanted me to change, and when that didn't correct the issue I call him and ask for permission to proceed with a proper diagnosis. He will approve and I will then proceed from the beginning. Once is all said and done I have his machine running right and made a few extra dollars from a part sale that was not needed.

Back in my day transmissions clunked and grinded and took forever to go from park to drive.

2016 is the OG, the rest of you are just posers.

You guys don't know. I once had a Jeep with 40K miles that I had to use a shoelace tied from the shifter to the glovebox to make the transmission shift.
