Is the engine temp gauge the best indicator for low oil in case of a missing dipshit?

If it was missing. Would a rising coolant temp indicate low oil?

No. By the time the temp rises from low oil, the damage has been done.

    Get a dipstick.

If you don't know how much you have in the engine, do an oil change and add the correct amount until you can get a dipstick.

Usually the missing dipshit fixes the issue.

Generally, that part is sitting behind the steering wheel.

Before the coolant temp becomes extreme, the low oil will have trashed the engine.

Go buy an engine oil dipstick. I'm sure it isn't an expensive part, even sourced at a dealer.

Fix the dipshit first. So the non dipshit adds a new dipstick.
