The DI engines will have a bit of a 'tick' which is normal, but they are reliable engines. If you have a tick (lifter) that does not go away and gets louder with acceleration, then it needs to ge back to the dealer to be checked, as that's not normal.

Did you test drive a few tacomas? Did they make the same noise?

That doesn’t sound right. Take it to the dealer. If they give you a hard time. Contact corporate.

    Lol at this! Try again.

it’s most likely the valve train. A characteristic of these low maintenance ultra reliable shim under bucket solid lifter designs is ticking noise. The difference in NVH between Toyota and Lexus is the price you pay for either. Aluminum block doesn’t help dampen it either. It’s called Taco tick for a reason but at least it’ll likely tick until the heat death of the universe

You can't diagnose engine noises on a forum. Especially with no video or audio.

These engines make all kind of noises there's no way anyone here can tell you your noise is normal without hearing it and doing a diagnosis.

Go to the dealer if you think it sounds abnormal, that's why you have a warranty.

The tick is totally normal. All new engines make noises like this. Switches , fuel injectors, pumps. Lots of Mechanical noises . Motors in the past were built differently, when you had a tick it was usually a hydraulic lifter. Just drive the truck and enjoy it. As long as it runs well and you don’t hear a hard banging from the motor it’s all good. You don’t have a lemon

All i can say is my 2020 at 8.5k miles is nearly as quiet as any engine i've had with a faint ticking if you open the hood and listen to the passenger side of the motor. I've heard some others on this site from videos supplied...imo, they don't sound normal. A dull rapping sound like metal to metal usually turns out to be never a good thing.

I have took it back twice I believe in all the trucks I have had this the worst one I can’t stand to even drive this thing. It sounds like it wore out with a 1000 miles on it

The Op is starting to look like a troll. Prove me wrong and post a video of your engine running.

If your truly having issues it is under warranty. It’s a new truck. If they don’t completely look into the issue, go to a different dealer until it’s fixed. New engines are very complex. It can be a fuel pump , relay
Fuel injector, or an issue with the engine. But at least give them the chance to rectify the issue.
Posting a video is only going to get opinions, and then give you more anxiety. Go back to the dealer.

I had a 93 3.0 v6...a bit underpowered but a very quiet engine ticking like a fine watch. My 2020 3.5 v6 has more mechanical sounds, but nothing like what i hear in these videos here. I'd say my 3.5 v6 is similar to the 2001 4.7 v8 i had with 2 less cylinders.
