Is the manual transmission that much better than the auto transmission?

totally agree with this. except for the part about considering. the AT. I'll never look at a Toyota AT after the 3g drama about it.

anyway time to drive, enough of this yappin

So can I, I also drive a manual.... My point was that MOST people don’t pay enough attention to “driving” while driving. So an automatic makes complacency while driving a lot easier. Just look at how many people sit at green light because they’re on their phone or just not paying attention. Those same people can’t be bothered to actually shift.

I've had both, and the MT works best for me, and the diff gearing is lower on the manual.

Yea, for long-distance cruising, I'd rather have higher gears. It seems the MT is easier for most people to drive with lower gearing. Less MPG and more RPMs at highway crusing speed.

If I lived in a Metro area I would have defiantly gone with an Auto. Since I live a rural, icy/snowy wintery area, the Manual is better for me.

It really depends on where you live and how your drive, IMO.

If you're drag racing an automatic will allow much more consistent Et's than a manual transmission in bracket race or index racing

Plus what more fun than launching a Auto trans off the transbrake at 4k rpm !!!!

If you want to slush through the gear box for fun, get a MT. If you think the MT will resolve the trucks factory hp/tq figures because the truck can feel sluggish at times, it won't. Just learn how to drive/adjust to the situation. I've owned both, a TRD 16 MT and now a Pro 19 Auto. I don't miss the MT one bit.

While I do agree with you, if I was going to do that. But . . .

You knew there was a butt coming. :D

I enjoy the hell out of trying to launch an MT. I have never been to a strip or a track, except for gocarts 30yrs ago.

It was some fun to get a fast smooth launch with the right amount of tire scrub on our long gone FWD turbos. The bike and Taco are just a laugh for different reasons. The bike for getting it right between a straight up wheelie and having the front tire just skimming above the road. The Taco for keeping down the wheel hop from the SOA.

I was told to wait till 2020 when Toyota will introduce a taco electric MT.

Don't have time to read through all responses to see if this has been said but here is my 2 cents...

    1. If you drive mostly on highway and interstate speeds, your mpg's will suffer compared to the auto.
    2. Shifting from first to second since you don't have much torque unless you rev it really high
    3. Reverse on the manual is geared soooo high! You never want that much speed doing anything in reverse. You have to ride the clutch so much just backing out of the garage or a parking spot. Something like backing up to a trailer I can switch to 4LO but I'm not doing that every time I back out of my tight garage.

Other than that I like my manual.

Never owned an automatic, hope to never have to. Only came for the show :deadhorse:

And to me, Tacoma's are just manuals. Only auto Taco I drove was my buddies 17 Pro....hated it. Also, manual was $2k cheaper, so win win.

    I'm left handed lol.

What's a pain in the ass about a manual is breaking your foot (rock hit on mtn bike) and drive for a few months with a boot.

Can confirm, there is nothing special about the Tacoma manual transmission.

It’s a truck, drives like a truck and regardless of how much I rev it out, it felt nothing like how others describe it as some holy configuration.

I would have kicked my own ass had I bought a manual. Time to buy another STI, the Tacoma does not fill that void.

I’m not really sure what you’re trying to say.

I was just dissaponted, owners of the MT talked it up like it was God’s gift to the road. It was unfulfilling imo. Any manual vehicle could be fun, but I’d rather drive my manual crosstrek over the manual Tacoma if that means anything.

You said it drives like a truck, I was just wondering what would you expect it to drive like? Its the same engine and suspension so its gonna feel like a truck.
