One thing that is missing from this discussion is resale value. While it may be $10K more now and you could probably add parts on for less, unless you bought a Pro, it will never be a Pro and all that money on upgrades means nothing at trade in time. So yes it may cost you more now, but that value is somewhat retained in resale value.

The key word there is somewhat. That 10k will depreciate at the same rate as every other dollar spent on that vehicle. Yes the PRO will be worth more five years from now but you'll have lost 15% of 45K instead of 30% of 40K or in my case, 30K. That's an extra 1500 lost plus replacement parts will likely be more. Hopefully those fox shocks are rebuildable. If not, then folks buying a used PRO are going to take the cost of those replacement shocks into account which could actually drive the price down relative to an OR.

I sell all Pros at sticker, I have a white one on the ground right now, cavalary blue coming in, and a voodoo blue scheduled for 19. They are awesome. Yes for 10k you could build a more capable TRD off-road, however if you go to sell it the Pros are an animal.

I'm sure it's been said, but it's nowhere near 10k more than a similarly trimmed OR. That's ridiculous. Paid $41k for mine

I went down to St George Utah and found not only 3 - 5k under MSRP that the Tax rate is also much lower and trade in get more tax break for you too so well worth the drive.

I like the Pro, except for the fake hood scoop, the wheels, the skid plate, the color, the double cab only, the short bed, the badges and the price.

Suspension is the key. I bought a Pro and this was the biggest contributor to my decision. My last 2 vehicles were heavily modded overland style rigs. Upgraded suspension, steel bumpers, winch, skids, sliders, breather extensions, lights, accessory panels, etc. When I decided on a Tacoma I was leaning towards an OR as a staring point and tearing it apart right out of the gate. I decided against steel bumpers for a number of reasons and the weight savings meant I didn’t need the aftermarket suspension. The domino effect of that decision led me to get a pro. Hung aluminum skids and have sliders and hidden winch mount in the works. The Fox shocks should be able to deal with that weight with little sag. And I will be spending less time in the garage and more time enjoying the truck.

One other thing - I owned a stock FJ and ran off road trails for years. It was more than capable of running woods trails, old logging roads, water crossings in its stock configuration. All the upgrades I eventually made were more for confidence, convenience, or appearance. And the suspension of was only upgraded after the stock components were shot. That experience definitely impacted my decision to trust the stock suspension in the Pro.

Do they actually get 10k over MSRP? I'm paying a bit over a grand and getting 30000 for my OR

Maybe I got mine at the end of production (built July 27). They told me that here at the end of production they're sending dealers an extra Pro over the allocation and production for the 19s will be double this years. I smell the Ford Ranger Raptor.

Nice. But no offense but I believe that is more about your driving style than it is about the parts or getting what you pay for. Glad to hear you found a good ride situation though. The mod game can always be a slippery slope.
