i have a 19’ OR with mudflaps and 5” factory steps. I have 15+ paint chips down to bare metal under the truck on the bottom of the rocker panels.

    Is this normal?

    Warranty related?

    Thanks.

More pop up every week. That would get old quick.

I don't care who makes it, that low on the rocker panel with mud flaps you're getting rock chips. If these posts keep up i'm going to join the stoners, boi racers and buy a WRX. We're at a level of embarrassing for petty complaints

I’m concerned with future rust issues. Could care less about the actual chipping of the paint. The paint feels really soft though.

Do mud flaps make it worse?? I thought they’d help.

That sucks. Maybe Line-X the rockers up to the sill?

I think you should drive your truck more and inspect it less.

Super soft paint might be normal...? I thought 15+ rock chips down to the bare metal just from street driving seemed odd at 3,500 miles. Just trying to prevent rust issues later on.

While normal, it does suck. get some clear 3m vinyl stuff and cover the rockers or get some rock sliders that cover the area.

I ran over grease today on the highway and was cleaning the truck. That’s how I noticed it. I’m just concerned with rust issues down the toad from the bare metal.

That’s what I was thinking. Touch them up and clear wrap them.

    Rocks > Paint

Your paint code is in the door jam. Order some touch up.

I complained after 1k miles on my truck because of all the rock chips, got nothing but the cold shoulder from the dealer. Best bet is to fix the little things like this your self.

I’ve seen some nice vinyl work in that area for a few hundred bucks. Might add a little uniqueness to your ride while protecting it too.

The paint is soft and thin all over. I have 2500 miles and have a chip right behind the rear door just above the protective coating, a chip on the passenger side rear door, and one on the roof. All I did was use touch up and move on with life.
On our Rav4 there is 5 or 6 touch up spots on the hood.
Just gonna be the way it is.

That truck will be long gone before rust becomes a real issue
