Wow. Is it always like this at Tacoma World? A person cares about his paint and he gets crap about it?

    That's what I was thinking.

Several threads posted showing bolts and shit with rust on it under the truck.

Don't look for trouble, it will find you when something fucks up.

Guess I'm just lucky, '18 TRD Sport DCSB a year old as almost 12,000 miles and no stone chips. Do you do a lot of driving on gravel roads?

Based on the garbage paint that has been relevant on trucks as old as 2005 Tacomas this is nothing new.

If these posts bother you then you might as well go join a new forum. See ya.

If you still want to try your luck on this site, take a meander over to the 2nd gen forums and stay there. We bitch about mechanical issues, talk HP adder upgrades (in the blower thread). We are past the paint bitching issues at this juncture and have dismissed them as normal at this point.

You should had kept the grease there. Free rust proof preventative.

In all seriousness though, go get colored Line X down there and call it a day, say bye bye to rock chips on the rocker panels.

Toyota been shooting waterborne on their cars since the first Bush was in office.
Even on their cars made in Japan and Canada and anywhere else.
Nothing to do with with EPA.
Also while paint suppliers may vary by factory, Toyota primarily shoots BASF on their vehicles.
It’s not like they switched to Krylon for ‘cost cutting’.

It's not about the fact that he cares about his paint, we all do. (most of us anyway) Its the fact that there's 50 other of these same threads or similar. Its known that 3rd gen paint sucks and that it chips and scratches if you breath on it wrong. Also the fact that he's complaining about rock chips on the rocker panel on the underside of his truck. Obviously this area is going to get nuked by rocks and debris and get banged up. and no its not warranty-able.

Given that the door sills have a rust problem I can understand our concern about the rockers. When I undercoated my truck I hit the pinch welds with undercoating because I was afraid of them rusting.

Maybe hit it with some chip guard or undercoating or some protection film.

I'm gonna be taping off and spraying with a Tremclad clear anti-rust enamel paint when it gets bad enough. Haven't found a day where I want to put in that much work yet. I'm too lazy to fill every little chip with delicate touch-up paint and have it fleck off again.
