How is possible when I downshift in the MT slowing down to prepare to stop the MPG gauge show 30+ at 3k RPM foot not on gas. But when im in neutral coasting to stop the RPM is below 1k and im getting 30+ MPG also.

Their is no possible way im getting the same MPG ? Correct...

Because the ECU cuts fuel to the injectors when in gear and coasting as the transmission is keeping the crank rotating. In neutral fuel is required to keep the engine idling.

The computer calculates the speed you are going and how much fuel is being used. While you're coming to a stop or coasting, the engine is using almost no fuel and you are still moving. The computer doesn't know you are about to come to a complete stop, just sees the numbers in real time.

This. It's more efficient to stay in gear than it is to coast in neutral since you're still using fuel.

When you're in gear, the tires are still turning and connected to the crankshaft. Think about how you can start a manual car by pushing it and dumping the clutch in gear. But when you're in neutral, there's no external force to keep the crankshaft going so it needs to burn fuel to idle.

its all relative, just like the eco light. its based on the throttle position sensor %

its a guess at best, and it always will read higher than it actually is.

your best bet is to calculate your own MPG

Efficiency, which mpg is a measurement, has nothing to do with engine rpm and everything to do with the power required from the engine.
An example would be driving unloaded in 4th gear at 4000 rpm versus pulling a 6K trailer at 2000 rpm.
    Which will need more power?

    Taking this one step further...
Engines, motors and other rotating devices are designed to be most efficient in a range of rpms. What this means is your engine at a real low rpm or a real high rpm uses more energy simply to function than it does in the efficient rpm range.

RPM's don't affect MPG, it's how much throttle you are giving.

as far as your actual question at the end...no you can't get 30 MPG's but putting it in neutral or when switching gears... the MPG's shown are based on the tank not the trip, unless you reset the whole thing each time you start the truck ( which is a waste of time)...all in all drive the truck and enjoy it don't worry about MPG's because if thats a concern sell the truck and get a bike of your choosing

Not concered about MPG, im now downshifting to avoid the driveline clunk in neutral and noticed the MPG meter showing the same as neutral coasting. Thank you everyone.

hey Op, so basically a observation post, gotcha...yeah i downshift when i slow down or come up to a speed bump to avoid the driveline clunks also, saves the brakes too so win-win

I noticed this with radar cruise control on the auto. When the guy in front of me moves out of the way it sometimes double downshifts to accelerate to get back up to speed. . However I would find that as it got back up to selected speed it would often hang out in that low gear even though you would expect an upshift. The engine would remain at 3,500 RPMs+ and loud but the MPG meter would shoot as made speed and stopped accelerating.

Also dangerous to coast in neutral as you give up some vehicle control.
