Is the "SR" package really this rare?

Hello everyone im new to the forum but ive been on the fb page for awhile. Im looking for a Tacoma to buy soon and I am really interested in the SR package. I went to the dealer and they've never even heard of it. And there isn't a single one in 5 states surrounding GA. Could I order it from the factory? And do only certain dealers have that ability? Thanks for any help.

Yea I got them to find it in the brochure lol, shouldnt I be able to order one? The sales guy said no... this would be my first new car. I was under the impression you can order new cars from the factory if you wanted certain options.

Yes they can order it. They are lazy.

Don't let them tell you they can't.

They can be rare depending on which cab, engine, and trans configuration you're looking for.

an ordered vehicle can be up to a 6month wait or if the vehicle is in a state close by they can pick it up.
when I ordered my tundra it was going to be close to 3 months but they found one in PA and I only had to wait 3 weeks

Someone on here posted that ordering a truck isn't really ordering a truck. You simply put in what you want and the dealer requests that configuration from what is already scheduled to be built. What comes in may be or may not be exactly what you wanted.

I'm not sure if that is true or not...but the guy certainly sounded like he knew what he was talking about.

Around here the SR5 package is almost as common as TRD's. Non TRD's and non SR5's are few and far between.

welcome, how did they determine there is none in 5 states around Ga, i'm in tampa, there is 3 at local dealer

    http://www.courtesytoyota.com/new-i...cted=inventory-listing1-facet-anchor-model-12

you can go on toyota.com website, build your truck, and it should tell you what is available in the area, it doesn't narrow down the dealership, but you can always call or check their inventory

don't get me wrong, you should definitely get what you want, since you are paying for it, but the sr is just a $785 package that has the side mirror turn signal and black wheels, it's almost no different from an sr5 package, i would much rather recommend a trd package if they can get you a good deal and it's within your budget

edit, sorry noticed it has color keyed grille and door handles too, which is a decent deal if you were to do that stuff as well

OP is looking for the SR not the SR5.

Yes you can "order", but there are limits to what can be ordered. As explained in another thread essentially the coarse details of what Toyota is going to build are set in stone early in the year - the number of DCSB vs DCLB vs ACSB and so forth along with drive trains and what not. And they are allocated roughly to the various regions and dealers. When you "order" what you are really doing is having a dealer change their upcoming allocation or reserve an already allocated truck for you and make fine tuning to the configuration (e.g. kind of radio, no floor mats, etc.). The dealer can't "order" a truck out of no where, there already has to be production scheduled for something "close" to your configuration which they can get steered to their region/dealership and modified.

As a result if your configuration change is relatively minor and to a popular model, say a SR5 or TRD DCSB, then it will be no issue. It might even exist at or be on the way to another dealer and they will just swap a truck off their lot to that dealer to get what you want. Otherwise they probably already have plenty in their upcoming allocations and your "order" will go through quickly. But ask for a configuration of which very few were planned to be made in the first place and you may be waiting for a long time. If late in the model year may be impossible to get as well.

This, I have posted this before. You can't order a custom built Toyota. But you can order any standard option set you want, then you wait for it to be built and allocated OR the can transfer one if there is one already built.

I live in western PA, I just bought my 2015 Toyota Tacoma SR 4.0L v6 right around thanksgiving. It took about 6 weeks to come in. When I ordered it, the dealership acted like it was pretty much impossible to get the SR with a v6 and they only sell it in the v4. they also kept referring to it as the SN package or SR5 Blackout package, I don't know why.

Build Your Tacoma web site sure makes it look like you can order an SR.
Agree with emd3rd quote. Few dealers on east end of TN have an SR in stock in any cab style either. Lots of SR5 and TRD. Tried to get an SR5 4X4 (non TRD) and dealer brought in one with "every thing I wanted" except it was an SR. They acted like it was such a rare thing to see one they put it on the showroom floor. Black wheels and color matched grill surround and bumpers instead of chrome. No back up camera, base radio and different seat fabric. It was also missing the Tacoma badge on the doors. Which is fine. I'm going to debadge it anyway.

Double cab convenience package gave me most extras that I wanted.
V6, tow package, 4X4, short bed, silver. They added the backup camera by taking the tailgate off an SR5 on the lot and putting it on the SR. Dealer installed backup beepers - three times - they still dont work when it rains.

Just looking at Tacos on the road around here, almost all are TRD of some sort.

OP, I'm not sure which part of GA you're from, but I know the dealer over here does about anything to get you the exact truck you want.
