Is the "Strawberry Milkshake" an issue for us or for some reason is it just the 4Runners?

I currently have 165,000 with original radiator. I do coolant replacement every 30,000 and have used only distilled make-up water. I have seen Avalons with this issue at only 70,000? I t seems galvanic corrosion where line enters tank is the culprit. Yes, I'm aware of external cooler to bypass but I want cooling while sitting in traffic as well as winter warming capability. Have any of you had enough concern to do a pre-emptive strike and just change out a seemingly good radiator? The milkshake could terminate my 15 year perfect affair with my truck. Thanks for your input.

Yet to hear of it happening on a taco yet.

If your worried then spend a few bucks on an external oil cooler and just swap the hoses over and cap off the factory radiator.

It can happen to any vehicle that uses the radiator as a dual purpose cooler coolant and transmission fluid do not play well together .

Worried about things not warming up in the winter you can install a temperature controlled solenoid .

Not enough cooling stuck in bumper to bumper crawl a simple matter to add a electric fan it can be manual or electrically controlled .

Simple solutions to your major concerns!!

Both are Stock - built correct from the start.
There's a good write-up here on TW somewhere. Just search it. Basically the 4Runner and Tacoma radiators are made with different materials. The Tacoma's are a little better materials but as Wyoming09 stated, any vehicle with a dual purpose radiator is susceptible.
