The cost of the cremation container was built in to the price by the funeral director.

As I recall the funeral director said he was in a cardboard box when he was put in the crematorium. I guess I'm a sick bastard because I wanted to know the process. As I understood it, essentially after the fire nothing was left except bones & those were ground up, I guess in a way, that leaves the "ashes". The odd part is, my father always planned ahead and had already bought everything including headstone, family plot & paid service. Literally on his death bed he said he had changed his mind and wanted to be cremated. But, $ wise I think cremation is an okay value. In the end the actual net cost for the entire, revised process $1,601.

Yep, that's about average. Some geographical locations are reporting advertised cremation at $995.00. So, in return, the funeral directors are pissed at us when we raise our prices due to costs rising....yet they continue to offer cremations at less than $1000. Yes, funerals are expensive and "outrageous" but considering the work that goes in to a burial, I know I wouldn't want to do it. Let alone, the emotional toll it takes dealing with your family dying and close friends, as well as families you've known for decades. The grief counseling alone would be next to impossible. So, the value of a burial is found in the services provided not only to the remains, but to the living as well.

Some people, like myself, aren't affected by it much, while others like my mother, are completely distraught and unable to function.

True. My father wasn't local to me and that seemed to be about the right price for his area. Here in Mississippi, tv commercials advertise it for less than $1,000. Handling the entire service was a responsibility that fell on me because the rest of the family were not up to doing it so, I did it alone. It was good & bad, there was no debate on what to do being the good & the bad is obvious.

I am grateful to General Motors and the IWA for driving me into the arms of Toyota. I was once a loyal GM fan. Same issues i had on my 73 3/4 ton were still there in my 78.

There are product segments where buying anything produced domestically is nearly impossible. Certainly phones fall into that category.

All things being equal or close, I try to buy domestic. Why wouldn't I?

Blackberry's were made in North America and would still be if Apple didn't head to Chineese sweatshops first.

Not just regarding PEDs but, this is one reason I'm not a huge fan of a strong USD. Granted we enjoy benefit where product is priced in $ (crude being a quick example) but, the US is still a major provider & could increase production if price & need supported it (entirely different topic but, that market is going to make those left standing even more rich). That all said, I guess the US has been a consumer nation prior to the currency swing which is sad IMO.

    As I'm now seeing your 10-20. :)

Well if the strong US dollars seems to be a burden, I'm here to help. Trade you straight across for some 70 cent Loonies. Just think of it as a Christmas present from the Great White North. eh

I'm not huge watcher of other markets but, do y'all run a trade deficit or surplus? I know the US gets major quantities of crude from up north but, not sure about the rest...

I don't remember a time when the US wasn't in a trade deficit on an annualized basis.

That part I'm completely fine with, and I agree the union should be. However the forced protection and representation of nonmember is where I have a problem. That's completely unfair to those who pay dues and support the union. If you want union protection and everything pay your dues and join, otherwise kick rocks and when a manager gets a stick up their ass don't come crying to us it's unfair. You gotta pay if you wanna play.

You are understanding the law correctly.

    http://www.mnaflcio.org/news/right-work-laws-get-facts

For those who may claim my first source since it's a union site, here's one from pro right to work lawyers:
    http://www.nrtw.org/your-rights-3-minutes

It does undermine unions and is one of the driving forces to weaken them.

Yeah, it was pounced into my head from a young age that manual labor=failure. Fortunately for me my original career path fell through when I figured out I did not want to be a police officer and I fortunately found my current position. It's a perfect fit for my personality and likes/dislikes in a career. Yet it's a like a half blue collar, half white collar job. Lots of project management, but when shit hits the fan I have to get my hands dirty and can easily work a 16-24 hour shift manually manipulating process systems and fire fighting equipment.

A job out of high school in 1975 paid the equivalent of 15/hr or roughly 31k a year. That's just high school. Nowadays, you're lucky to be making 10 out of high school.

From what I read in the attached links, unless an employee/company fall under the RLA (me) or are a private sector contractor with certain government contracts, depending on local law, you will (legally) benefit from union representation without paying dues if your co-workers are unionized...and that's according to a pro right to work site. I'm amazed that a union can be forced to represent an employee who chooses not to pay dues but works alone side dues paying members.

I bet those employees get some special treatment.

I think you are misreading my post. I'm fine with people not wanting to join and I'm fine with people not being forced to join, but don't expect us to protect you when you run afoul of a power tripping manager. Right to work laws force unions to support leeches that's closer to Soviet tactics.
