    Larry, your bar looks amazing.

I'm that white collar guy that came from nothing, worked on a farm with migrants, paid for my own engineering degree and got a good job with big oil. Hate me. My experience with unions is all bad. Trades can do amazing work and should get paid. I will never hire union workers, but I'll pay for quality.

    Thread should be closing soon.

Fair enough. I agree that right to work could keep them honest to their members, but I don't think the current writing does this as well as it could. If you're guaranteed all the benefits with none of the cost what incentive is there to join? Out of the goodness of your heart? I don't think that would go very far. I think there should be some benefits reserved for the paying members. Union stewards during discipline actions I think is a fair separation. I don't mind my non-union coworkers having the same pay and benefits as far as health and retirement. Same job, same compensation package, but I think union actions and protections should be reserved for paying members.

That would let the union prove it's worth and if the members didn't like it they're still free to leave. I agree forced union membership is wrong, but I think forced representation of nonmembers is wrong too.

Union is worthless. The leadership is all on the take. They only care about themselves just like Hugo Chaves.

I don't care what anyone says...

Apple pie & vanilla ice is the best thing in the world. If it's union made or not.

The federal poverty level for a family of five is $28,410, and yet almost 40 percent of all American workers do not even bring in $20,000 a year.

-38 percent of all American workers made less than $20,000 last year.
-51 percent of all American workers made less than $30,000 last year.
-62 percent of all American workers made less than $40,000 last year.
-71 percent of all American workers made less than $50,000 last year.

Couple things. One if your household income is 28k or less and you have 3 kids you are an idiot. Two with two incomes even at $20,000 each you are at 40k a year. Still not awesome with a family of five but not poverty.

    Head unit. That's it.

Keep in mind, a lot of people who had good jobs and kids, lost those jobs, and found work elsewhere no matter what it paid. For instance, I was on pace to make about 80k and my job was reduced due to the healthcare industry losing its mind over ACA. My job was reduced, due to hospitals "cutting costs". I'm quite sure they intended to send me a letter asking me if I had kids, but I bet it got lost in the mail, (damn union workers).

So, now I make less than half of that, while traveling 80 miles more a day, but I have two kids. Would I have two kids had I known? Probably not. Would I trade my son for $40k a year. Fuck.NO.

    Think I'm an idiot?

So much truth behind this! I know a few families that used to work for the big 3 that went through the same situation back in 2009.

You are not an idiot if you have kids and your income status changed. Especially if you do what ever you can to provide for your family.

You are an irresponsible idiot if you have kids and feel your are a victim and the government needs to pay your way.

I'm not implying that are aren't those who genuinely need some help.
And as a tax payer Im ok participating in a safety net for my fellow Americans.
However, the safety net has become a hammock.

Union workers are usually better paid, especially if you include benefits. Usually they are happier and safer at work. Do you do better work when your happy and secure in your future?

I've yet to apply for any assistance, including wic or anything like that. Just tighten up the belt, and sell some shit to get by. Something better will come along, and I can start getting ahead again.

Edit: My wife's former employer also reduced her position shortly after returning from maternity leave...so, my income basically got cut by 75%. OOF.

Always think it's Bowie when it starts...

Bowies group only wanted an acknowledgement but, Ice basically told them to FO. He (VanWinkle) ended up paying a copyright infringement penalty after they ended up filing on him...sometimes being a dick doesn't pay.
