Is the TRD Cat-Back Exhaust right for me?

Let me start off with this.. I’m not a car guy. I’ve been doing some research looking to replace the cat back exhaust system on my 2009 sr5 v6 access cab. Looking for something that will give me a slight upgrade, sounds solid and won’t give me any issues going forward. I figured sticking with something stock will hit those marks instead of messing with the aftermarket options. I’ve seen good things on the TRD cat back system PT91089061. If anyone could provide some more insight that would be appreciated.

I have it on my 11 DCLB and have had no issues. Bolted right up and it's not too loud.

Have it on my 2010 access cab and it’s great. Was easy to install (took about 45 mins -1 hour at a leisurely pace). Looks good and sounds good. Make it easy on yourself and get these pliers for the rubber hangers. Also, be careful not to damage any brake lines when fishing it over the rear axle. I jacked up the rear end a little for more room but I didn’t have to use a lift or anything. Easy job.

How is the drone? I had a dynomax system on mine and the low rpm droning killed me LOL.

Love my TRD exhaust, easy install, sounds great, zero issues, not too loud, not too meek, just right imo, and OP, do yourself a favor, if you go through with the purchase, by a new set of OEM spring bolts (what holds it all together), and don’t forget to buy a new OEM exhaust gasket as well.
I have a 2013 DCSB, gasket and spring bolts part numbers should be universal for 2nd Gen, maybe someone can chime in. Looking for the spring bolt numbers, will post when I find them.

    Exhaust gasket part number (174510A010)
Spring bolt, I think this is it, check with dealer though just to be safe, you’ll need two but I think they come as a set ( 9008050392)

I had the Borla cat back on my '01. I was looking for some throatier sound. It was good for what it's worth. Can never make a 4 banger sound like a V8!

I'm happy with my TRD exhaust. You're not going to see a performance increase, but it sounds better and has a nicer exhaust tip.

The same shit everyone else has.
I’ve had mine on my truck for 7 or 8 years now and I’m super happy with it.

Slightly louder than stock. No drone. Doesn’t sound like a box of angry bees like most aftermarket exhausts on a v6.

I have it also .nice sound easy install about 45 minutes also. No performance gains but i did notice a slight increase in mpgs. Like one more mpg. I went right to the dealership and had them order it so I wouldn’t have to pay shipping. It was $365 out the door 789A2D0E-42DC-4726-A9FE-2D7E23E7E24E.jpg

Thanks for the insight everyone. I’m going to go through with it and pick one up from a dealership tomorrow along with a new gasket and spring bolts. Everything I could find online was roughly $375 + $300 shipping to me, at the dealer my total will come out to roughly $550. If anyone else is looking for one, at the time of this post there’s 1 left over in Bow NH, all other dealerships I called said it was on back order and had no ETA.

I love mine. Suggestion when you install it is to drop and remove the spare tire because it gives you some extra room to maneuver the exhaust up over the rear axle.

FML, for the last 2 weeks I tried sourcing one, no dealership on the southeast could allocate one; ended up buying the MagnaFlow Off Road Pro :frusty:

I have the magnaflow its abit too loud for my taste, my other tacoma has the TRD exhaust so much more liveable.

I ordered the TRD Cat back in August, backorder took about 7 weeks. It came in last week and I just installed it over the weekend. Super easy job but unfortunately, I don't think its for me. Its not bad at highway speed but its fairly loud inside the access cab when accelerating. At idle it has a decent sound and the chrome tip looks nice. I do mostly start and stop driving though. The exhaust sound is like another passenger in the vehicle that I am not going to be able to ignore. I'm probably ordering the stock cat back and throwing this up for sale somewhere.

Is it possible that you have a leak where it bolts up?

Nope, its from the exhaust tip/back. New gasket on the cat flange that aligned and sealed really well. Its just when initially accelerating. Not obnoxious just not what I was looking for.
