Wasn't asking why. I was stating that I wasn't sure when production fully moved, but know that production was still occurring in August of 2020. But thank you for that lecture in basic economics.

I've got a 2021 Pro. I don't know where it was made and don't care. Works fine. No issues.

2021 Tacoma here. Built in Texas. I would love to have them all built here, but Toyota has other plans.

Then again, I hope the Tundra Hybrid kicks ass. 30mpg highway? :D

Tacoma production was transitioning out of Texas over the last couple of years. There are 3 factories in MX building Tacomas I believe - Baja, Guanajuato (where it seems most access cabs come from) and somewhere in Sonora state?

You CAN buy a Tacoma in Mexico (production is not exclusively for export), but it is much pricier as a "luxury truck" offering relative to the HILUX which is ALSO offered in Mexico. - Along with many other models and makes (e.g. Skodas, Citroens, Peugeots, Renaults, etc.) which the free folk in the land of the free are, well, NOT free to buy...

PROs and M/Ts were some of the last builds made in Texas. I recall reading that ALL TACOMA production would complete transition to Mexico by the end of 2021 to accommodate Tundra (and maybe other models) production at the Texas facility.

There have been many sightings of Baja built PROs (some with "TRD offroad" stickers applied in error!) and Baja built M/Ts...
I assume no more Tacos are built in Texas at all by now...

Not that it matters in terms of the Tacoma as a product - but that is the story...

I've joked previously that my taco likely will command a nice premium on resale* from a certain profile of buyers since it was built in Texas... I think this not so much a joke anymore...

    * IF I were to consider selling - which I am not... unless in trade for a (maybe Rivian?)

    NNi should clarify a little.
I am in Canada, I currently have a 2021 TRD Sport Premium manufactured at TMMTX and I wanna buy a TRD Pro M/T solely for the lockers and Atrack, which can actually be added aftermarket to my Sport.

No idea why, but dealers that buy Diesel trucks in Canada to resell them in the US pay a premium for those manufactured in the US.
Something to do with tax exemptions for the ones made in USA but not familiar with the details. Therefore, a truck made in Mexico would not hold the same resale value in Canada.
In the US that shouldn't be an issue once they've been registered.
On Dodge Cummins they're only buying the ones who's VIN start with 1 (made in USA) and not the ones that start with 3. And they pay top price for them, sometimes above the local used market price. That made in Mexico tax must be pretty substantial and not covered by NAFTA. Maybe the Trump tariffs on aluminum and steel? Don't quote me on it, I'm not familiar with importing/exporting taxes between Canada and the US, I thought they were all covered by NAFTA but there's been major changes under 45.

When I got my “allocation” the dealer said good news it’s made in Texas… I said great it’s gonna be here quicker huh? But we were both surprised. I kinda wondered if my truck was built with a bunch of parts that had been left around the factory. Some hodge podge “post covid” crew of employees finding fenders and control arms. Robots taking over.

Not enough bandwidth on the internet to list.
My TRD OR is only several months old. At first I wasn't sure of its origin but I recently moved the seat way back during a thorough cleaning and found a half eaten Chalupa which led me to check the VIN tag on the door panel. Sure 'nuff...Baja!

As far as I know all "Canadian" Tacomas are made in USA. I have a 22 Pro coming, hopefully by spring time. Will see where that's assembled when it arrives.

Incorrect. All three ‘21 trucks I know are 3 VINs. One PRO MT. One OR MT. One OR AT.
My truck, OR MT, was a December/20 build.

My 2021 TRD-OR also built in Baja.
AFAIK, the San Antonio Plant are clear out of Tacoma to made room for 2022 Tundra production.
It doesn't make any sense to build some Tacoma in US to sell to Canada, and then build other Tacoma in MEX to sell to US.

Future thread: "Are the trucks built in Texas worth more money than Baja?"

Haha this was my 2000's color before getting my Lunar Rock 21 Pro. Made the mistake of not photo'ing them both side by side. Color's not even close.

I have a 21 Pro and it was built in Texas in July. Check your window sticker, it will say where it was assembled or the driver side door tag.

Interesting. This was the case in the past. I'm seeing some leftover 2021s still with a VIN starting with 5 (USA) and all of 2022 so far that have landed have in Canada have the 3 VIN (Mexico).
