The 3rd Gen has always been TX and MX so 2021 not really a transition other than ending TX production.

As long as the Japanese people remain protected from a Nuclear attack by North Korea, by the same country that took those jobs, I’m sure they’re good with it. But I digress….

Correct. I just didn’t word it properly, I should have said a phase out period or something.

Folks...Tacomas have been produced in Baja since 2004. Nothing new there. The 2nd Mexican plant came on line roughly a year ago. The Baja plant has more experience at Tacoma production than any other N American plant, including TX and Freemont.

Toyota moved Tacoma production from the Texas plant to Mexico to free up production capacity for the new Tundra as well as the new Sequoia which is being moved from Indiana to Texas because it shares so much DNA with the Tundra. This, in turn, opens up production capacity for Indiana to produce more Highlanders and Siennas which Toyota Motor Sales (TMS) desperately wants.

Not a single American job has been lost in this transition. In fact, jobs were added in Indiana.

The Tacoma parts infrastructure is set up in the southern USA and Mexico. So it only makes smart business sense to continue producing and even expanding production in Mexico. There is no sinister motives, no job eliminations.

I find it interesting that these types of threads all go the same way.....subtle bigotry undertones and "outsourcing" talk. How can a company based in Japan outsource jobs in any other country besides Japan?

Was my Tacoma assembled in The States? No. But plenty of the parts were, including the engine from Alabama and the transmission from West VA. So Americans somewhere still put food on their family's table.

This isn't 1950 anymore. We live in a global economy. What is "American" and what is "foreign" was blurred many years ago.

Bullshit. The jobs created in Mexico could have been created in Texas. That is a net loss in many peoples view, just not yours.

Not possible. San Antonio does not have the production capacity for 3 models. Tacoma production was never going to be a permanent fixture there anyway. The only reason it found it's way there was GM leaving the NUMMI plant basically making it impossible for Toyota to continue production there. Tacoma production was quickly moved from Freemont to Texas to keep up with demand and also to bolster TMMTX's production, which at the time, was running well under 75% capacity....which is not efficient.

Zero jobs were lost because the Tacoma production at the TX plant was replaced with additional Tundra and soon to be Sequoia production. TMMI (Indiana) actually gained jobs.

    Are you in the industry?

Toyota wanted to keep the Taco plant in USA but couldn’t afford the HR department. Let’s face it……with the way things are going in Canada and USA, I’d rather have my plant in Mexico as well.

There is a difference between a view and a fact. No jobs were lost however less new jobs were created in Texas for a whole host of reasons.

don’t for a second come at me with this argument. The only thing that saved the completely incompetent Auto industry was the Federal government with billions in bailouts. So yeah, call me unreasonable when my tax dollars went to fund exorbitant pensions and union concessions, when the auto workers union refused to restructure their pay so the entire industry didn’t go bankrupt.

The whole auto industry too. Tesla going to the moon and digging a tunnel under LA with our hard earned money. If I keep writing I’m going to get banned.

It’s peculiar, but completely true of human nature: whenever we see someone get a better deal than us, rather than complain about our own deal, we complain that their deal is too good, and they should have the same crappy deal we have.

I’ve seen and heard this sentiment so many times, and caught myself feeling it many times too. It’s best to keep some perspective, and try not to be the proverbial crabs in a bucket.

I was just thinking about celebrity rich folks and how i envy that person. But it’s not like I want to deal with a ton of money. I just want people to be paid right, not based upon being in the right place at the right time. What is this thread about anyways?

In the seventh grade health class they told us they will live in your eyebrows. Seems a little extravagant. Living in the heights.
