    I’ve been stewing on this problem for quite awhile now, still no action. I did find a local shop that sounds like they know what the process takes to accomplish. I can bring them the axels, and save that man hour shop rate charge. Then I thought, If I take’em out, maybe there’s a 5 lug axel exchange scheme out there?
    If so, will any of the other Generations with 2 whl drive rear axles interchange?

    Dorman now sells pre pressed assemblies, not sure if they have them for a 5 lug truck or not. With that being said i wouldn’t trust the assemblies for quality either.

    Your best bet is just to remove and bring to a shop, no exchange services that I know of. It’s really just a one day job so there isn’t a lot of down time.

    Says you have a 5 lug. There is axles. Factory. Cheap or free. I’ve had a number of them. Gave one away.

    that’s another option. Acquire that, do you what you want to it, then bolt it in.

    maybe it’s something that can be DIYd with the special tool and HFT press.

    Thanks for that Dorman link. So that is one option, but WOW! About $1,400.00 each! Crazy price but maybe the 6 lug shown is that high? Odd how all the other listings are Way less??

    Found a 2018 thread* with some info I need to understand: Is 8.4” the ring gear size? If I am looking for ‘09 5 lug Auto trans axel assy, I want 3.53 ratio gears?
    It’s really hard to find just 5 lug 2 gen axel shaft assy’s with bearings/back plate etc., to swap into my housing. The Dorman parts are shown as 6 lug, and I have not yet found a 5 lug listing.

    * Toyota 8.4” axel (2nd gen)
    In all 5lugs. 2nd gens axel is 2” wider on either side and use different mounting points than 1st gens. Theycame with manual trans 3.31 auto trans 3.53 gears, but accept the same internals as the 6lug, it will even takethe same diff from the earlier 8.4”.
