I’ll be doing the timing chain cover gasket replacement soon and since I’ll have the fan off, was wondering if there is a better/more efficient fan out there. Google hasn’t really pulled anything up.

I pull an RV on occasion and cooling is obviously important to me ;)

Idk about better but there are electric fan options.
Flex a lite was a super popular mod on 1st gen tundras when I had mine.

Programmable temp controller, reduced fan noise, reduced power draw, minimal efficiency gains, better idle and crawl cooling, faster warm up temps in cold. Does that make it better than oem? tbd.

The fan/clutch setup just works, no need to try and get rid of it.

If your cooling system is working correctly, the stock fan and clutch is more than adequate at keeping your vehicle cool.

I don't know if this exists for 2nd Gen trucks, but for a 1st Gen there are two fan clutch variants.

One is stock, and has an orange band, and the other comes on vehicles with a tow package and has a green band.

Alternatively you could replace the oil within the fan clutch itself for something different than what the factory uses.

As for your transmission, I'd opt for an aux cooler assuming you have an auto.

A supplemental cooling fan would be nice, if one existed that was an easy bolt-on. The AC in these trucks is weak and only blow ice cold when you are moving forward at a good speed. I'd love to have one that would kick on if I'm stuck in traffic on a 100*F day or idling in a parking lot trying to cool off.

There is a drop in fan PN: 88590-35040 that is part of the TSB condenser fan kit PN: 04000-17235 but it isn't cheap and the gains are minimal. It essentially adds the condenser fan that the Mexico market Tacoma's come with from the factory.

I did the kit on my truck and it seems to help it keep it cooler once it cools off inside and you stop but doesn't seem to help it cool off any faster, hopefully it will help my A/C compressor live longer though because our summers are hell on A/C systems.

    That job is NO FUN.
There are a few places easily missed that you need to make sure have RTV and o-rings in place on the timing cover.
I'll see if I can pull up the data later. But there have been a few guys do the job, and missed a couple spots.

This is a job you DO NOT want to have to do again.

I just replaced mine with a Derale fan and controller. Was done to give a wee bit more power towing up a hill. Which is where the clutch fan works hardest. Also like the A/C kick in as it can get hot here. It was almost harder to remove the old fan than to install the new one ;-) I mounted it to the stock shroud and it works well. My .02
