is there a full set I can buy that will give me no more than 2" with my shell

    enough to go over stuff
Dakars would. They are 2.5 with an empty bed so should be about 2 with a shell

they are on there already, wasnt even planning to do leafs until i found a shell. My budget screams AAL but Id rather try for a better solution

I had the 3 leaf AAL and since adding a shell (225 lbs) it pretty much took all of my rake away except a half inch or so.

Bought Dakars to fix, but not installed yet. I definitely don't recommend an AAL unless that's really all you can afford to do. Like me, you'll end up still needing a better solution.

Ride Rite bags are an option and priced in the middle, at about $300 shipped to you.

I read alot of your posts and saw your pictures. really was one of the deciding factors for me to not pull the trigger on the Icon/Wheelers AAL

did you put your 884's on? I was going to do 884's and a leaf pack if I can swing it. I have 883's and nothing in the rear now and thats just not going to do.

I'm in the same boat. I don't always carry stuff in the back, but I do have a shell. I wonder if a shell is enough weight to offset the rough ride of the dakars if unloaded? Or if the third one needs to be pulled for a height loss of 5/8"/ but get a smoother ride?

I did a bit of reading in the Dakar thread and asked OZ-T several questions.. so far, I'm expecting stiffness but not expecting a really rough ride. His constant load is double mine, but he had nothing to complain about when he didn't have tools in the bed (which make up the additional weight, I believe our shells weigh the same).

Get the Dakars and pull the upper overload leaf to reduce lift by .5" or remove the 3rd leaf down from the top to soften them up (thus also losing some lift).

I think they run nice as a full pack even without a load in the bed.

As far as ride quality though, I don't think the 5100's handle the Dakars as well as OME shocks - especially if you throw a bunch of weight on them. Keep that in mind when reading people's opinions about the Dakars.

Yes.. I was told 5100s will work fine, but the OMEs would be better.

air bags may be my in my future!. wasnt planning on doing a full lift until it was paid off, sounds like I might want to wait though and do it right

Bags were my first consideration given the price and comparative ease of installation, but one thing it added to the mix that I didn't really like is complexity. Not a complex system in themselves, but leaf springs are purely mechanical. They don't not work, or have leaks, etc,.

That looked more appealing as time got closer and so I went with Dakars. I'll say that the expense is significant and much more than adding the Ride Rite bags, though - so consider that as well.

For Dakars, OME rear shocks, OME front shocks, OME coils, hardware, bushings, CB drop, axle shims, and extended rear brake lines (just in case), I'm in just about $1200. 4x the price of Ride Ride bags, which could be thrown in in my driveway in a few hours.

Yes, I dont have the funds to do that right now. it was a leaf pack to bring the rear up after putting the shell on and some 884's to keep the front up

    good info guys, thanks
