Take your time and relax. I always feel good knowing that the job was done right when I finish. I know there was a new OEM filter placed in the filter canister and was torqued to the right spec along with the drain plug. I know that quality oil was used and filled to the proper level. I know that I gave the under carriage a once over and checked tire pressure. All in 45 minutes.

The OE until allows you to inspect the filter media. It’s not that hard to change once you get the hang of it. You can use Fram Ultra or Endurance filters and change every other oil change if you want.

If you install the Baxter adapter, which canister filter do you plan to use? None have been "designed" for the 2GR. How would you know if the bypass valve opening pressure is appropriate for your engine?

so you're implying i MUST watch a 25 minute video, otherwise my truck is going to implode the world? it's physically impossible for you to participate in a text-based forum and provide a summary of the information given while citing that video as an external source?

don't worry, i found a contextless video for you too.

Better off getting a trd skid plate and continue using the OEM. Adding the Baxter contraption and different filter just seems counterintuitive

While I agree wholeheartedly with you, it's not that easy in TW land; where we overthink and reengineer nearly everything. Just wait another hour, someone will question the design of the door latches and get our their CAD and welder to show us how they can further muck it up.

I think the stock setup is less messy and nice to be able to inspect the filter. The plastic canister is just fine if you do your own oil changes so you can be sure to tighten it correctly. I use a cheap filter wrench from Wally World that works just fine. Tighten filter by hand then put wrench on and give it a tiny tightening bump. Never leaks and comes off without any struggle. No one else will ever change my oil until the day comes I can't physically get up off the ground.

Buy the Motivx oil change combo kit. It's perfect. And add a Fumoto valve. I actually like the Toyota oil filter setup (removeable filter element inside the canister) because I can see what the element is filtering out, rather than the sealed element.

Why do some many people complain about the oils change . It’s cake and not that messy using the motivx kit. It’s easy

i have been wondering why the steering wheel is mounted on the side that is closer to oncoming traffic ......i could do a better job, were they drunk when they designed that?

^It's so you can see oncoming traffic before crossing the center line to pass on a two-lane road.

Just be glad the steering column is centered with the driver's seat. In some vehicles it's offset a few inches to one side, GM half-tons, Subaru Impreza, etc.

yeah, plus it would be easier to try to get your passenger to pay at the drive through window if he's closer.

So now you’re paying it forward? So now I gotta watch YOUR contextless video too?
Technically, you told me it was contextless…so you actually gave me some context. You’ll need to work on that a bit. ;)

Seriously, I’m still a bit of a newbie when it comes to forum etiquette…so point taken…I will provide some contextual summary next time.

With the scew on filter, I hook a hose to the fomoto valve, drain oil, unscrew old filter, screw on new filter, refill oil without getting my hands dirty a or spilling any oil.
All the videos Ive seen of people changing the canister filters all spill oil everywhere??

Heed the advice of the people telling you to get the Motiv-X tool kit. It gives you what you need to empty out the housing so that you don’t make a mess. I have never found spin on oil filters to be clean at all, they always drip a bunch of oil and when they’re hot they suck to handle. I have grown to prefer the 3rd gen setup. There is no telling why the YouTubers you’re watching are spilling, could just mean they aren’t using proper tools.

Or, as I have seen a few do, they just don’t drain the filter housing. They just spin it off. Makes no sense.

I hate to admit it, but……
I’m a 56. I’m an old fart. I don’t like new crap. I seriously dreaded this new filter setup. However, after changing the filter a few times, and getting the MotivX setup, I like it a LOT more than a spin on filter.

I wouldn’t be surprised if some YouTubers do that. I know for sure some techs do that but that’s a bit different where they do them every day.
