Things are so crazy here, they’re killing people who try stop them from stealing catalytic converters.

I was outside a Sheetz convenience store in NC one ... 3 motorcycles parked and 2 of the 3 riders standing outside, one with a gun sitting openly on the seat. The third exited the store, took the gun back and put it in a holster. Businesses have the right to refuse guns (except official) to prevent "random acts of stupidity" even in "wild west" states.

 

Did you not read what you responded to? I’m an LTC Instructor in Texas and deadly force can be used to stop theft under specific circumstances outlined in the post you quoted.

my point is you can’t hear somebody stealing your tailgate and run out of the
House guns a blazing. Staying in the house and calling the cops can be considered “any other means”

you must not have crime in Texas with all you cowboys shooting thieves.

Btw: Texas ranks 12th in violent crime and 14th in property crime. Sounds like it’s working out for you guys.

What I would do is pull the plastic on the inside of the 'gate and inscribe/etch it somehow, take a picture of that and close it back up.

Many years ago my friend would do this with his car audio stuff (so yes he had actual camera/Polaroid pictures) and his car got broken into. A few weeks later he found an ad for the enclosure (which he suspected was his). He asked a few questions and then got to what the power handling was (which gave him an excuse to remove one speaker)..sure enough it was his.

 

You may want to take a TX LTC class before you judge what he said. TX is not CA, or MA for that matter.

As the shooter, protecting your tailgate, would it cross one's mind to take the chance that the whole ordeal (Court) goes your way after you ventilate the thief?

Also, on topic, I can tell you that my second gen has a VIN sticker on the lower inside lip (the sheet metal) of the tailgate. Can be seen when it’s down looking into the gap between the bed and tailgate.
