I have the 2TR-FE, I send it every time I hit a highway entrance ramp and sometime run it to near redline. I’ve got redline a few times. The sound of the 4 cylinder really is sweet as it revs up.
I do this intentionally to clean ‘er up as most of my driving is rural/town 35-55 mph.

This is how I inadvertently learned how to time travel. :curls:

I think this was a tail fathers would tell their son, when mom was within earshot, so she didn't bitch about the gas bill and/or driving habits.

"alright son, we're gonna open her up. I do this once a week to burn the carbon out of the top of the engine, and the moisture outta of the exhaust. Sure it burns a little extra gas, but saves us lots of money in the long run."

I live on a 2 lane highway in Massachusetts where 55mph is a suggestion. I say a prayer and hammer it everyday getting on the highway.

I do short drives, as everything is close to me, like work, shopping, Hockey, etc.... So I feel it's productive to do it. The last 4 minutes of my drive to work is driving over 50 mph, so it's getting it daily. The other 6 minutes is slow driving through the neighbourhood.

I think it should be done...

A brake stand each week is what the doctor ordered. Also don’t forget to send it off a triple jump each month to keep the suspension loose.

Me and this other taco opened it up on the 41. I let him go past me about 81. I wonder what all the cars behind us thought when these two grey Tacomas had a fun little drag in front of them.
Benefited me with a big ass smile.

Always good to open it up every know and then. Got to make sure the analog speedometer is working all the way to the top speed.

do you also own a dodge viper or lamborghini?

i'm curious of your frame of reference to how these trucks are slow. i rarely have an issue not being the first off the stop light, and gapping all other traffic by a large margin...

of course, i also own "WORLDS SLOWEST CAR" aka, the subaru brz. i also have no issue with the speed of that either. teh truck actually feels faster than the car, just not as fun.

My uncle was a contractor with a Chevy truck with a 454 and a 4-barrel that he only used around town. We got him to open it up one day and it blew out whatever was in it, but was mostly just FUN.
New cars have computers and injectors so no need … unless you want to have some fun.

I have an incredibly long exit ramp getting off the freeway to my house. The speed limit there is 75 MPH, I drive 85 MPH, and about half of the cars are doing 90+.
When I hit the exit ramp, I down shift and engine brake to slow down up to the light.

The belief - and maybe I'm wrong - is that the engine sucks in just as much air at 4,000 RPM (just an example RPM) regardless if it is decelerating or accelerating.
3.5 liters /2 because it's a 4 stroke engine means that each rotation takes in 1.75 liters.
4000 RPM is 66.6666666 revolutions per second.
67ish revolutions is 117.25 liters of air that passes through the engine with minimum combustion.
In the Ranger and Mustang Eco-boost engines it would even cut fuel so that you get a full gulp of air to cool the engine and give good air to the catalytic converters. But I don't think the Taco is that sophisticated. I'd bet you still get idle fuel amounts.
My guess is that I average about 3,000 RPM for 15 to 20 seconds giving me about 1,300 to 1,800 liters of air pulled through the engine and through the cats with no fuel or minimum fuel.

The hope is that as I decelerate from a high rate of speed, and suck this air through the engine that it cools it down and then I drive like a granny the next mile to my driveway.
