Is there really a 2018 Tacoma?

Ok, didn't mean to sound this way. Sure, 2018 may add new color, Toyota Sensing, etc.

    Let me ask the question.

When there is a recall, it's always by VIN. Sometimes VIN cross model years. All manufacture does constant improvements or sometimes cost cutting as they see fit, with a new parts supplier, etc.

I read many replies here where people say, they will "wait" for the 2018 model. If there is an improvement, would Toyota implement it right away, rather than wait for "official" 2018?

If they need to torque a bolt 0.7649 lbs tighter, they would implement it, correct?

From your experience, have you noticed Toyota making changes during a model year in the past? Where the parts number for the same item are different?

Therefore, is there really a "reason" to buy a 2018 vs 2017?

Sometimes they make small changes a few years in, but right now I think it's mostly hopes. We don't know if they will improve anything. So it's a wait and see game. We all hope they fix the bugs by 2018.

The Engine is the only thing I'm waiting for. Soon as I get some Specs I can decide what to buy. My '98 can let me wait.

    all tore up already
Dont be silly they make changes all the time. They dont produce exactly same truck up to vin xxxxxx. First tacos had some bad cps, they changed it when they noticed. Lots of people complained and somewhere they stopped offering greasable u joints. They enlarged radio knobs. They make changes constantly as they see fit. The 2018 will be basically the same truck as a 17 and 16. Maybe some minor changes in colors and packages but essentially the same.

My guess is some "superficial" stuff. Like automatically locking tailgate or a keyless entry handle on the passenger side. Maybe we'll see new wheel designs or color options but I doubt it. They will want to milk the R&D and design work they did for as long as they can before switching too much up.

If they ever had intentions of releasing another engine, like a diesel, my guess is that they would do it with the 18 model year to get out in front of the new ranger. I don't think they do. Historically, Toyota sits in their happy place with slightly underpowered, not too fancy, ultra reliable engines and drive trains.

Replaced stock radio with a Pioneer AVH series head unit. Focal component system w/a 10" sub powered by 2 Alpine amps. Weathertech floor mats. Line-X'd the bed. SCS Ray 10’s, Installed an A.R.E. I would say they have no choice as far as the rear ends Nd transmissions go. I hope to hear 18's and on have all the bugs worked out and they prove to the dependable truck they have always been

Yes. You'll be in an excellent position to tell future prospective buyers to wait until the 2019 model year. As your 2016/2017 predecessors did in their own time.

Toyota isn't going to wait to adress issues with a new model year.

The only real case of this would be major improvements. Example: 2015 Camry was not only a facelift, but also adressed new frontal crash safety standards to improve its safety rating.

Just sittin back and watching....but .....wait...what? They're coming out with new engines soooooo soon after a major redesign? I'll believe it when I see it......as this certainly does NOT follow tacoma history!! LOL OR perhaps, they're feeling the HEAT to keep up with everyone else.

For consumers sake - I hope they upgrade your transmissions to 8 speed. I know you guys are having transmission shifting issues with 6 speed that are remarkebly similar to what the 'twins' have in the 2015/2016's. The good ol' 'trying to squeeze' out every MPG they can routine.

I thought for sure Toyota would be spending more time in developing a Hybrid truck. They'd be the first to come up with one and mass produce it (using their Prius history).

Wonder if they'll ever put power seats in the 2018? LOL

I think the power seats is a safety issue. Raising the seats probably makes them fail crash tests. So then it would be just power sliding front/back which isn't super useful.

That's my guess because otherwise it really doesn't make sense to not have them at this point.

Oh, the 2018 will probably have that safety stuff like lane departure or Auto braking.

    Not a safety issue...

Why would it be a 'safety' issue on a Tacoma? VERSUS everything else on the planet that already has power seats.

Like the 4Runner... the thing is, they already have power to the seat for heaters and such, so retrofitting the 4Runner seats to the Taco would seem to be an easy task.

Dude the question was asked about changes to the 2018's. What Smitty said was 100% true. There are still carryover problems from the 2016's and it's hard to believe, even the 2005 2nd gens.

Just because you don't like the truth on that matter does to give you the right to be abusive.

And remember, before you respond, JBerry (mod) is watching these threads ready to ban people. He's banned quite a few since he's been turned into a mod.

Height of the seat can be putting the drivers head too close to the roof? Maybe it could impact side impact survivability?
