That's why I'm going with it. I had it on my old 2010 Trail Edition 4Runner

Trails with KDSS are great. Have a 15 4Runner TRDP - still moving toward a Taco 17 TRDP soon.

To the OP, every year there will be some sort of upgrade. That's just part of the buying process. Otherwise you'll wait forever.

i was under the impression the KDSS would not kick in on the road? Only off road as it "engages" when the system senses a wheel drop. I assume it would take a pretty large pothole to drop a wheel on the road.

some of this, a little of that
It adjusts the stabilizer on the road to prevent body roll, then at low speed off road it allows greater articulation, best of both worlds. If it's not a great explanation @4x4Runner might be able to better.

It says with Advanced Powertrain, I can only assume that probably means the 3.5 is gonna end up under the hood too.

    I love my '17 Taco!!
    - I did not want for 4-runner or any SUV - I wanted a bed, which I USE..... Why would anyone own a pick-up and NOT use the bed - its why we buy them right?
    - I love the manual seats and honestly appealed to me as electric seems silly to me, but hey I'm only 36.
    - I wish we could take out TPMS, and all that "safety" crap that will fail or give head aches or even safety sense WTF is that? Shit we drove cars for year without that crap.
    - Man with all the folks here who do not like there truck, trade it in and get something you like! That is what I did with my CR-V - I hated it, so what did I do - join a forum and bitch about it - NO. I actually did something and got a TACO.
    - Now wonder folks poke fun at the 3rd gen forum....

    2018 4Runner will still be 5th gen. If there's a 6th gen, it's not coming before MY 2019.

Not sure how much you're joking, but for me personally its kinda accurate. From 10-20k miles, I wanted to trade the truck in. Now at 27,XXX and I'm going to keep it, at least until 2019 or 2020 when the ranger/bronco's drop. I've been fixing the problems as I come across them, and the ride quality is getting more refined.

If you ignore the vibes in the pedals, the busted cab/rad mount bushings, and the occasional abrupt shift, my truck is pretty great actually.

Hoping they do some small cosmetic changes to the 2018s so not everyone has the exact same truck as me.

I have trouble understanding the " recoupe R&D costs concept."

    1) R&D costs are expensed imediately, and in my years of experience as a cost accountant, I have never seen R&D costs booked to manufacturing inentory. If I was told by someone to book R&D costs into inventory, I would quit and call a whistle blower hotline imediately.

    2) from an economic perspective sunk costs are sunk and shouldn't impact future decisions. Only the marginal benefits and costs matter of an economic action matter. The only thing that should matter to Toyota is that the production of the current Tacoma results in operating profit or some other intangible benefit to the company. If Toyota can make an improvement which results in better sales or reduced production costs for current Tacomas, they should engage in the activity.
