Worst maybe, still love mine. See PLENTY of new ones on the road and still out sell any other mid-size out there. just turned 20k in mine. Should probably get the 2nd transmission TSB done at some point.

I came to this sight to see the insights of 3rd gen now I think I should just do a rebuild of my dd but still will see the 18 before I fully decide. Currently my 93 Sr 5 sp 350k had it since new. But like the looks of the 3rd gen.20170428_090339.jpg

My first car was a 65 Mustang. Paid $250 for it, as it was old and in not great shape. I was a teenager working a a gas station- I asked the mechanic/ owner to look it over, and his one answer was, "it needs some work, but you will get back every dollar you put into it", he was spot on. Thought about this seeing your 93. If I was you, I would keep this and get another vehicle as a daily driver. I like my 3rd gen, but I needed a new truck when I bought it. You already have a truck for truck needs, so you have more freedom to go a different route if you want.

All this is predicated on the frame being free of serious rust. Otherwise, get the 3rd gen. The SR 4x4 with 4cyl and 5 speed should make you pretty happy imo.
    Good luck and NICE 93!

Was going to keep the 93 n get rid of the dodge. Plans on turning the 93 into an overlander n put the 3.4 into her.

2018 exactly like 2016 minus safetysense and color addition.

The point of the thread is that does Toyota consistently make changes and improvements to the Tacoma? For example To point to the rear diff issue. If it came off the line today, is it torque to a different setting? Or will Toyota only apply the new torque settings on the 2018?

It depends. I think it matters as to what system the proposed change effects. An engineering team has to sign off on the change, and I am not privy to their project management, so a change order may sit for months in the drivetrain dept, but maybe only days in the suspension dept.

So there is a process that has to take place, including weighing the cost of the change/update between model years. Some exec makes a decision and it rolls out in mid cycle or on the new MY truck

I have a late build 2017. No issues, no recalls, no TSB's. I would guess they've rectified the diff issues.

I am like you. I plan to hold on to mine until 2020 and then trade her in. I hope by 2020 they get all of the problems ironed out. Right now the only problem I have is the howling diff.

They have not rectified the howling rear yet.

Thanks, I'll keep my eye on it then. My Colorado went from a small howl to almost unbearable in one weekend trip. Dealer swapped out ring and pinion gears. Known issue on early models.

Looking in the parts catalog, it seems there may be a number of updates for the 2018 based on what I'm seeing for end dates on the current parts. I expect a late start to 2018 (Nov. 2017 production). What those updates will be, I have no idea.

Interesting. Didn't expect that with what I was seeing.

No I believe you, it's just interesting. If both that and the parts catalog are correct, it looks like some of the changes I was expecting may happen after 2018 production begins.
