just curious if there's still creatures that like talking at stop lights about how terrible it is that you've bought a non-american vehicle, especially considering how heated many people tend to get around their specific make of trucks.

i've only had ford trucks before, so there was the typical chevy vs. ford bs(i honestly never cared either way). but before that, had a mitsubishi eclipse (the one that was built in illinois ironically) that it's happened a few times with. of course, it never helped that there's a ford powertrain plant within an hour of me, so a lot of line workers in the area..

All American trucks gasser or diesel have their flaws. In my experience they generally have transmissions that will not hold the stock power output for a respectable duration.

I haven't encountered any flack for buying foreign. My truck was assembled by robots in Texas btw.

Only from Tesla drivers who are in cars. The ELG Pro Tacoma might change their minds.

    There will always be idiots.

I buy American whenever it makes sense. Otherwise, I buy what I want. I have never worried about getting into a fight at a stoplight over what make/model of vehicle I drive.

yes to all of this. This is America, a country founded on freedom of choice, not what some dickhead tells you is correct. You get what you want, not always what you need but that isn’t what this place is about. Man I love this place

These trucks are straight American despite their Japanese nameplate. Like literally. I think the only Japanese thing about these trucks is legitimately their nameplate.

I'm Canadian, so really the only comment I get is "don't they rust?"

I assume it’s a regional mentality if it exists in any significant way anymore. We’ve got family in upstate NY in a dying canal town that still try really hard to “buy American.” Which is cool. But most of the people around my area tend to be affluent, cosmopolitan, ambivalent, or some mix of those things. All vehicles these days are part of the global supply chain anyway, so it’s an outdated or nostalgic or pastiche-ish response to give someone shit for not buying domestic.

Most vehicles I see in my area with American flag decals are Toyota's. Plus, most taco's purchased in the states do support American families.

More of a problem in the Midwest and East coast where most folk work or know someone who works an automotive related factory job. West coast imports outsell domestics for the most part anyway and no one has any affiliation directly with a brand. Most imports, at least the common cheaper ones are assembled in the US now anyway cause that's cheaper. Only special models and very expensive ones are coming from over seas. (Land cruisers, bmw M models, etc.) It seems like a trait of desperation or poor upbringing to talk shit about someone else's buying habits.

Everyone is too absorbed in their own lives to give a shit where the 20 year old truck in the lane next to them came from.

I'd probably get more of a rise out of them if they realized it was built in California at the same plant they build Teslas.

Shoot mine was built in Mexico. But my “domestic” Chevrolet Camaro that shoots bald eagles out the exhaust and has that sweet LS power - was built in Canada. Our Subaru though, really is a true import from Japan via boat and rail.

I like all three just the same. :hattip:

Now, I did like the fact that my Tundra was actually US built. Both my 1st gen (up north I think) and 2nd gen from Texas. Don’t get to say that anymore but I also can’t say that ever comes up in normal conversations.

    It's a secret
Bottom line questions I would ask is "Does it really matter? Does it really affect your life in a direct and such a drastic way you can't function in life? How exactly does it impact the way you are able to get on with your day? If it doesn't, then it's really not as important as you'd wish it to be"
