Is there still no “Oh Shit” grab handle on the drivers A-pillar of the 2020?

You need the other model with 2GR 3.5L V6 aka Sienna:

It's great that they make an option for handicapped people.

No. The curtain airbag when deployed breaks the A-pillar plastic mounting bosses. Anything added to those mounting bosses (like a grab handle) will affect airbag deployment, which means Toyota would have had to crash test the truck again for 2020.

The airbag is also in the A Pillar in the passenger side, also had a grab handle on the drivers side with an airbag on 2nd Gens.

Didn't we have this discussion earlier? :)

It's technically possible to add a grab handle after the fact, but you'd have to test deploy the airbag to make sure the plastic still shears properly. :)

Mechanically it's relatively easy to add a grab handle. Just drill two holes on the A-pillar plastic over the leftover 2nd gen screw holes in the A-pillar structure, and mount a billet handle with some 8?mm screws, like they've done on the FJ. But you run a great risk that the airbag won't deploy properly or worse, send sharp debris into your face. It might actually be safer to unplug the curtain airbag at that point. You'd just revert to a similar level of safety as the Jeep JL with its 1-star crash rating.

    Couldn't you just install one?

When I installed my dashcam, I removed the plastic A-pillar cover, and I think I remember seeing the same mounting screw-holes as on the passenger side.

The cab is the same as 2nd Gen so the mounting holes are already there.

The mounting holes are there, just one of them will require a rivnut to accommodate the new a-pillar trim piece with handle.

Having no drivers side "a" pillar grab handle makes my truck pull to the right. Will someone please make a mold and produce one for our trucks!!
My wife has one on her '15. What makes the second generation truck so damn special?? lol

Someone on YouTube have done this already, I can’t find it now. However, he took the passenger handle and cut the plastic from the driver side to fit the handle. Quite honest, looked real good!!

The curtain air bags do not deploy from the A-pillar. Check @KTJO 4x4 thread for the grab handle posted above. Somewhere in the past few weeks in that thread someone posted a picture and video of what happens when the side curtain air bag deploys.

The airbag comes out of the roof, not the A-pillar. All that comes out of the a-pillar is a tether to insure the air bag stays down. you can watch the video and see how the mounting of a grab handle will not interfere with the deploying of the tether.

Honestly, I don't miss the grab handle from my 2013. I've had my 2016 since brand new (4 years now) and still manage to get in the truck jsut fine. But I signed up for @KTJO 4x4 grab handle because why the hell not. Those days where I'm hurting and just want an easier in to the truck seems worth the price. And she's gone through a great deal of work to make it happen.
