Just like that....I was recommended by jiffy lube to have some of the tranny fluid drain, does it really matter?

Umm... going from experience with my work vehicles (havn't changed tranny fluid on the taco yet) I would say there isn't too much.

We fill up the tranny up to the filler hole. So if there was too much, it would just spill out.

it wasn't a jiffy lube exactly, i just used them for thread sake. Local auto lube place that I really like to believe knows their stuff.

Drain or flush? no clue... he just said I should have it drained a little? I don't know

Never believe anything someone at Jiffy lube tells you!!

Too much fluid can be just as bad as not enough fluid.

It isn't possible to over fill it though is it? Since you fill it to the filler hole?

so According to you guys the tacoma automatic doesn't have a fill /dipstick hole? Just fills like a manual transmission?

if you're flushing fluid you're wasting time and money. That said.

Yes, if you overfill an automatic transmission you risk it blooping out the fill when hot causing a fire, at least. You could also pop off a line as well as if its severely overfilled yes, it can damage the transmission.

If its a manual transmission.. can't really overfill. As long as there's still room for expansion or you'll get leaks.

I'm kind of retarded when it comes to this stuff. So this is something I can do myself then? I'd much rather do that than have to pay some shop do it.

too little and too much are equally bad....the problem with too much is it churns the fluid and aerates the fluid causes air bubbles in the trans which could possibly fry the transmission

I worked in fast lube place some time ago. Do NOT ever believe what anyone tells you there! Don't even go there! Its bunch of high school drop outs working there. After working in one of them places. I would NEVER go there with my own vehicle!

First, Unless I missed it somewhere - you didn't state whether you have an automatic or standard transmission. There is a big difference.

Second, you have a 4 banger which means you have a dipstick (if you have an automatic) for checking the level. Follow the procedure outlined in the owners manual to verify what this shop is telling you. You may be worked up over nothing.

Second, contrary to the above info - the 2.7 L AT doesn't use the WS fluid. I believe it uses Toyota Type IV - but double check should you want to service it.

/\/\/\/\/\/\ this guy knows whats up!!! what happens when atf gets bubbles in it? it displaces the fluid which in turn doesn't lubricate the gears, clutch packs, etc. (same with engine oil) no lube, stuff starts grenading and cooking. carnage every where(really bad odor to)

/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\ as for this guy! it really depends on WHO is in the fast lube. i worked on the fast lube, i graduated from high school.. but mine fast lube was it the dealership

Yea, it's in his profile. But not stated clearly. Hover over his truck description.
