Is this 1999 Tacoma TRD Limited the "nicest in US"?

Hello my knowledgeable compadres. I've been lurking around this website for quite some time gaining wisdom as I continue to quest for my first Tacoma. Thank you to all the contributors.

I finally decided to join and ask for some personal insight. The journey thus far has been fraught with disappointment as I live in an area where Tacomas are generally $2,000-3,000 overpriced like the 2003 DC 4x4 SR5 I looked at today with 84,000mi. Mechanically sound, clean interior and a rusty frame for $18,000.

Anyway, got home and began the search again and came across this little gem:

    http://www.autonetworkus.com/1999-Toyota-Tacoma-LTD-TRD-51K-Mi-MUST-SEE-AD-Oregon-97701/5949306

Being that most 99's I'm finding are listed at an average of $6,000 (with obviously higher mileage) and considering the upgrades, is this truck worth anything near the $15,900 these guys are asking? I'm thinking $12,500 at most, but I'm not knowledgeable enough on anything pre-2001. I think this truck would be great with a 3in lift and some bigger tires.

I've mostly been looking for a 2001-2004 DC TRD OFF ROAD, so this isn't my ideal, but hey, it is supposed to be the nicest 99 TRD LTD in the US, right? ;)

What is a fair price for this truck? How off base is the asking price?

    Thanks for any insight.

Fox 2.0 Coilovers in the front and Fox 2.0’s in the rear, Total Chaos UCA’s, Al-lpro expo leafs, K&N cold air intake, TRD headers,Magnaflow catback exhaust,URD short throw shifter, switched out my 60/40 bench seat for some Tacoma Limited seats, Replaced the vinyl shift boot for a leather one, completely soundproofed the cab w/ Frost King. Replaced stock radio with a Pioneer AVH series head unit. Focal component system w/a 10" sub powered by 2 Alpine amps. Weathertech floor mats. Line-X'd the bed. SCS Ray 10’s, Installed an A.R.E. MX series camper shell. All-Pro Apex front bumper w/ All-Pro skid plates all the way back to the Trans. Low Range fuel skid plate.
That is very nice indeed. I paid $16,900 for my 03' but I looked for almost two years to find a blk ext cab v6 4wd manual under 100k miles.(brand new frame or garaged its entire life) I was going to pull the trigger on a new Canyon and found my 1st gen 5 minutes down the street from my house!...it was well worth it to me. With 125k on her she should last me as long as I want. Good luck finding your truck!

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
Looks like it was only driven on Sundays. It's been heavily modded too (that steering wheel can go). The price seems inflated by about 6k but they are likely compensating for the blower and "doo-dads".

It would be up there if it had not been messed with... and are you sure it is a limited? I think they just stuck the badge on after the seat swap.

Previous owner completely debadged it so they may have just moved it. Hard to tell otherwise.

I think it's way overpriced, but then again, I think paying $13,000 for any 17 year old truck is crazy. It's been modded, and with that steering wheel, seats (nicest part of the truck IMO), and blower, but no lift, I would venture that it's been driven relatively hard. I could be wrong, but I sure wouldn't pay them any extra for that add-ons. I would look at the KBB, NADA, Edmunds, etc. and go from there.

Thing is ugly... Those exterior mods make it look awful. Interior is kind of weird but I can see how someone would like it. What's going on near the shifter?

same thing happened to me...after searching far and wide. Driving countless hundreds of miles. I gave my self 1 more week and then I was going to give myself 1 more week. The next morning I get an alert in email car was found 4 miles from where I live. It was in my drive way 3 days later after everything check out. when I picked her up he told me guys were offering more than he was asking even thou he was tempted. He said that we made a man's deal by shaking hands. One guy offered him 19k and this is why they command such a high price there are folks willing to spend big money on these trucks. Especially if un-molested.

I tend to agree. Looks like the price is hiked up because of the "bloatware". $15,900 just seems outrageous to me.

On the other hand my brother in-law says his neighbor might sell me his 03' dc trd off road w/ 140k mi for $11,000. I wanted one with less than 100k, but I'm not having much luck. That seems like a decent deal to me.

The owner is 75 y.o., so that explains the disaster that is the interior I guess. No idea what is to the right of the shifter.

I think it is some sort of electronics mount.

I question the "Limited" aspect of it as well. I guess it really depends on what you want from the truck. To me this vehicle is geared towards a guy who wants more of a street queen with some speed and a clean look. If that is all you want to achieve then go for it. If you want to put armor and some other stuff, I would consider another truck and maybe look to make a fun road trip out of getting it. The Northern VA area can also have a high dollar price for the average ride so I know your pain. I would pass if it was me as there are probably a decent amount of 1st gen tacos out there with what you want up front, but that mileage will be hard to beat. As far as price, I think asking $12,500 is pretty fair as I mean it is a 99...

Too expensive, but in the end it's all about what the buyer is willing to pay and a low mileage first gen can fetch crazy prices. For comparison...my 2004 Tacoma, 24k miles, 4x4 v6 5speed w/supercharger was being sold for $20k back in March, I bought it for $17k. Was being sold through a Toyota dealership though and dealerships aren't as firm on their high markups with older, used vehicles as much as a private seller probably will be.

Also it looks like it's been lowered??? That or it needs new suspension, bad.

Back in 14 I sold a 2000 trd Offroad v6 manual that was bone stock for 13,500. It had 78k on it

So this one has 140k, but it's a real clean, TRD OR and only asking $11,000. Worth it with those miles or keep looking?

I'd look at it, 140k is still considered low mileage
