Hey everyone planning on pulling the trigger on a snorkel soon but when I opened the hood of my truck I noticed I could see the air filter (The white piece circled in red) with the air box closed. I’m assuming it’s not supposed to be like that. I took the air filter out and closed the air box back up but could not fix it.upload_2024-3-19_17-26-40.jpg

Well mine closes tight and the air filter has a rubber seal all the way around. So yes that lid seam should be air tight if it is closed properly. If it wasn't air tight you would be sucking in dirty air.

This is what it should look like:

The airbox lip and the lid squeeze the air filter gasket, creating a seal. The perimeter of the filter gasket may be visible by varying amounts due to uneven molding of the gasket. I'm using a Fram filter in my 4Runner. You can see the orange gasket peeking through in some areas:

Where the airbox bolts to the fender isn't watertight either, but you can goop up the bolts and rubber grommets with sealant.
